Most notably, Egypt, one of the largest nations in the Middle East, has the majority of its land in North Africa and only controls a small portion of the Sinai Peninsula in Western Asia, while being one of the world’s most populous countries.

It is most likely because of the ethnic makeup of this emirate that some people believe Dubai is located in India whereas, in reality, it is located in the United Arab Emirates.
In fact, the overall proportion of Emirate is even lower, at 11.32 percent, than the national average.
Other nationalities account for up to 38.56 percent of the total population of the United Arab Emirates (chiefly, Americans and Europeans).
Why Is Dubai So Important?

- Unquestionably, even those who are unable to locate Dubai (or the United Arab Emirates) on a map have heard of the city and recognize it as a significant global player. Dubai’s well-known landmarks
Some of Dubai’s most exciting features, including those that have earned it the nicknames “the Vegas of the Middle East,” “the Veneice of the Middle East,” and “the Disney World of the Middle East, if Disney World were the size of San Francisco and situated in the desert,” have only been constructed in the last ten years. The city of Dubai developed as a result of the discovery of oil in the late 1960s, and by the early 1970s, it had grown to become an important hub for oil corporations. It was also during this period that Dubai saw rapid growth, owing to a significant influx of migrants from the rest of the Middle East, but mostly from Asia, which has continued to this day.
Dubai’s growth was momentarily interrupted in 1990 owing to the Gulf War, but it subsequently rebounded and continued to expand not just as a result of oil and commerce, but also as a result of increased tourism in recent years.

- It is possible to spend weeks in Dubai and not see everything. The city has a profusion of unique attractions, including the Dubai Museum, Jumeirah Mosque, and bustling marketplaces where you can buy spices, crafts, jewelry, and other items.
- Relax and take in the magnificent architecture that can be seen throughout the Middle East and Arabia – but particularly in Muscat, Oman. All of Muscat’s attractions are open to non-Muslim visitors, including the city’s Grand Mosque (the third largest mosque in the world) and fortifications (forts), gardens, and shops. Muscat’s Grand Mosque is the third largest mosque in the world, and most of this stunning structure is open to non-Muslim visitors. After a day of sightseeing, make a point of visiting the Muttrah Souk bazaar, where you may find unique handicrafts and regional cuisines.
- Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, rises majestically over the surrounding desert dunes. It is considered the country’s crown jewel. Ferrari World, with its incredible collection of cars and the world’s fastest roller coaster, is a must-see in Abu Dhabi, as is the beachfront Emirates Palace (which is actually a hotel), with its extravagant stonework, ornate domes, and expansive courtyard
- And the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, which is a must-see in Abu Dhabi. The former British colony of Mumbai (Bombay), India is half a world away from England, but the city’s Victorian-inspired architecture, which includes the Rajabai Clock Tower, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, remains. These structures stand in stark contrast to the traditional Indian structures and the famed Chowpatty Beach
- They are a work of art.

Commentary: India’s most vital hub city isn’t in India
You’ll probably notice a trend if you look up at the departures screens at any big Indian airport: the names Dubai and Abu Dhabi show regularly on the flickering screens. A little more than one out of every three foreign travellers in India is on their way to or returning from the United Arab Emirates. Amr Abdallah Dalsh for Reuters As a result, many Indian travelers utilize the UAE’s major airports of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and increasingly Sharjah, connecting in the UAE to planes heading for Europe, North America, or other parts of Asia.
- Among the passengers from India who disembarked from a flight in Dubai last month was Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- When Modi visited the United Arab Emirates for the first time in 2015, he made history as the first Indian Prime Minister to do so in 34 years.
- However, while history helps to explain why commerce between India and the United Arab Emirates remains healthy, with annual trade reaching $53 billion, the UAE’s ties with Pakistan has impeded efforts to forge a larger alliance with India for decades.
- As UAE officials began to take a more assertive stance against extremist Islam, Pakistan’s ambiguous relations to the Taliban became increasingly difficult for the country.
- In January 2017, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, was the guest of honor during the ceremonies of India’s National Day in New Delhi.
Last month, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company awarded a significant stake in an offshore oil concession to an Indian consortium led by India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), and the two countries agreed to a currency swap arrangement that would allow direct trade in both UAE dirhams and Indian rupees.
- The majority of Indians that arrive in the United Arab Emirates, however, are neither tourists nor transit passengers.
- These Indians are the clerks and accountants, the travel agents, and the real estate brokers that make up the enormous emerging market middle class that has made the United Arab Emirates its permanent home over the years.
- Then there are the laborers who toil long hours to construct the structures that have elevated the United Arab Emirates to international prominence.
- The message was clear: India will be paying close attention to the United Arab Emirates’ handling of migrant workers, which has been widely condemned.
- Human Rights Watch praised the new worker rights as a “significant step forward,” albeit they cautioned that their implementation will be critical to their success.
- Over $12 billion worth of remittances are sent to India each year by Indians who work in the United Arab Emirates, making the UAE India’s largest single source of remittances.
- The Dubai Land Department reports that Indians are also the country’s largest foreign investors in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
During the founding of global airline giant Emirates in 1985, the carrier, which was dubbed the “Middle East carrier,” picked Mumbai and Delhi as the destinations for its first three flights: Mumbai was the first, and Delhi was the second (the other was Karachi, Pakistan).
Despite having a relatively modest population of 9.5 million people, the United Arab Emirates is India’s second-largest export destination, accounting for roughly 12 percent of total exports in the year 2015.
In terms of value, India exports to the UAE a total of $30.7 billion, which is almost the same amount as the country exports to its next three largest export destinations combined: Hong Kong, China, and the United Kingdom.
DP World, located in Dubai, has invested around $1 billion in the development of ports throughout India.
On the set of a series of adverts produced by the Dubai Tourism Board, Bollywood mega-star Shah Rukh Khan wanders about the city of Dubai, shocking – and delighting – people by appearing as a waiter or showing up for a game of beach volleyball.
For fans of Shah Rukh Khan and Indian movies, Bollywood Parks, Dubai’s newest theme park, would be a welcome addition.
Foreign people seeking citizenship in the UAE are extremely rare, especially among those whose families have resided in the country for decades, in contrast to other countries such as Singapore.
“Can you tell me which city in India is the best?” the joke asks.
