Emirates to offer complimentary hotel stay for transit travellers

In an effort to attract more transit visitors to the emirate, Emirates Airlines, Dubai’s leading airline, has renewed its Dubai connect initiative, which provides free hotel accommodations in the emirate to transit passengers, including those from India, who have a layover time of more than 10 hours.

Customers who have booked flights in all classes (first class, business class, and economy) and have a connecting stopover duration of between 10 and 24 hours are eligible for the promotion. The service must be booked at least 24 hours prior to the next flight to Dubai in order to be guaranteed.

How to book Dubai connect service

• The connecting flight on the traveler’s schedule should be considered the most convenient mode of communication when booking a Dubai connect service. In order to achieve this, the stopover in Dubai between two aircraft must be the minimum possible period.

• As long as the connecting flight departs after another flight, such as a previous connection to the passenger’s final destination, the reservation will not be eligible to use the Dubai connect service.

Following options available if you are required to stay outside of the airport during your transit period

• If you are eligible for a Dubai connect package, you must reserve the service at least 24 hours before your scheduled flight.

• It is possible to stay at a hotel or with relatives and friends at your own expense if you are not qualified for visa on arrival in Dubai or if you do not have a pre-approved visa to enter Dubai if you do not qualify for Dubai connect.

• Unless you can produce proof of your ability to leave the airport for a transit lasting more than 10 hours, you will be refused boarding at the point of departure.

Flying in 2020 may be a stressful experience, with anything from Covid testing to flight cancellations. There is some good news in that if you are stopping over in Dubai for more than 10 hours, Emirates airline may provide you with a complimentary hotel stay. The Dubai Connectservice, operated by the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, will resume operations on December 1, making travel a bit easier for those navigating flight schedules that have been disrupted by the coronavirus outbreak.

In the event of a stopover lasting between 10 and 24 hours, you may be eligible for a complimentary night in a four- or five-star hotel, in addition to airport ground transfers, meals at the hotel, and assistance with your UAE visa on arrival, if necessary.

In such instance, business and first class travellers may be offered a complimentary stay at the Dubai International Hotel at Dubai Airport – subject to availability – as well as access to Emirates’ Dubai Connect airport lounge, which is located at the airport.

Who qualifies for Emirates Dubai Connect?

One of the goals of the Gulf carriers is to promote their home nations, and one of the ways in which they accomplish this is by providing passengers with free stopovers in other countries. • People traveling in first or business class “for whom the optimal connecting time is not available and who have a transit time of more than six hours but less than 24 hours” Customers traveling in economy class “for whom the most convenient connecting time is not available and who have a transit period of more than eight hours but less than 24 hours” are eligible.

Only Emirates or Qantas issued tickets are eligible for this deal, hence a partner award ticket would not be eligible for this promotion. According to the Emirates website, accommodations are given at the Copthorne Hotel Dubai, the Le Meridien Airport Hotel Dubai, the Arabian Park Hotel Dubai, or another option at the discretion of the airline company.

According to what I’ve heard, first and business class passengers are often housed in the Copthorne or Le Meridien hotels in New York.

My experience booking Emirates Dubai Connect

The “Manage My Booking” area of the Emirates website should allow you to book this directly if you meet the eligibility requirements. I’m not really clear what they mean by “for whom the best connection time is not available,” yet the following is what I’ve gleaned from Emirates’ site:

• We were eligible for Dubai Connect for our outbound flight, where we had a layover of approximately 14 hours, but we purposely did not book the next flight from Dubai to Milan (where you’d think we wouldn’t be eligible because we chose to have a layover of that length)
• We were also eligible for Dubai Connect for our return flight, where we had a layover of approximately 14 hours. As a result, we were unable to use Dubai Connect on our return trip, where we had a stopover of around 11 hours, and instead booked the next available flight from Dubai to Los Angeles (where you’d think we’d be eligible, given that we didn’t pick a layover of that length, actually)

For our outbound flight, where we had a layover of approximately 14 hours, we were eligible for Dubai Connect; however, we deliberately did not book the next flight from Dubai to Milan (where you’d think we wouldn’t be eligible because we chose to have a layover of that length); and for our return flight, we were eligible for Dubai Connect but did not book the next flight from Milan to Dubai. As a result, we were unable to use Dubai Connect on our return trip, where we had a stopover of around 11 hours, and instead booked the next available flight from Dubai to Los Angeles (where you’d think we’d be eligible, given that we didn’t pick a layover of that length);

When we arrived in Dubai, we went through immigration and then made a right to use the Emirates chauffeur drive service, which was waiting for us. We hadn’t ordered a vehicle ahead of time (there was no ability to do so online), but they were more than happy to arrange us a car to take us to the Le Meridien, as ground transportation is included in the package. The problem is that none of the signage really directed us to our accommodation, which was quite frustrating.

For example, the photo below shows what the door to our hotel room looked like.

It’s safe to assume that these aren’t purposely mismatched, but rather because the sides of the hallway are in various stages of refurbishment.

Not that I want to be a jerk about something that was apparently “free,” but this was anything from nice.

This particular room featured an entryway to the right of which was the toilet, and then some of the most mismatched and out-of-date furnishings I’d seen in a hotel in quite some time.

It appeared to be coordinated enough that it didn’t appear as like they were utilizing completely random pieces of different furniture, but that’s about all I can say about it.

We were immediately served some nuts and vegetables as soon as we sat down.

Even though we had a restful night’s sleep, we were up bright and early the next morning to catch the first flight out of town and enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the airport lounge, which meant we missed the breakfast at the hotel.

If there are no more than three people in the back, these are really fantastic. Legroom on Spirit is less than on Spirit when there are six individuals seated in the back. The Emirates van will transport you back to the airport.

Emirates Dubai Transit Hotel bottom line

Positively, it’s great that the Gulf carriers are providing this service to their passengers. Unlike other airlines, when you have a lengthy layover, Emirates provides you with a place to sleep, food to eat, and transportation to get you to your destination safely. I was also pleasantly surprised by the eating options, which included the ability to pick where you wanted to dine and the fact that most restaurants offered an a la carte menu rather than a buffet. Having saying that, the Le Meridien Dubai has seen better days in its time.

Let me be clear: I appreciate that they are providing this service at all, and perhaps I should simply state that “it is free, therefore I shouldn’t criticize it.” However, I personally do not believe I would use this again.

In part because Dubai offers a large number of luxury hotels that may be hired at a low cost, particularly during the summer months.

It would have cost around $150 to stay at the Park Hyatt Dubai or the St.

So, personally, I’d rather pay that much for a quality hotel than get away with staying here for free, but that’s just my opinion.

So I could have taken advantage of the lunch coupons that Emirates presented me with instead.
