Even though I’m willing to pay more than a local, this seemed excessive.

Family reunion in October 2021 After being convinced that cashew nuts, pistachio nuts, and dates were significantly cheaper in the spice shops than in England (they weren’t, but we negotiated hard to get them discounted to a price comparable to UK retail), we were disillusioned to discover that the nuts were infested with bug eggs, moths, navel orangeworm larvae (both dead and alive!) and larvae, as well as webs in the cashew and pistachio nuts.

If the souk had been a true experience, I would have bought something, but I found the whole thing so aggravating that I got in a cab and went to the Dubai Mall instead – if the authentic experience is the souk, that’s not fantastic.

The month of October 2020 We took the RTA boat from Marina Mall to the ancient souk, which brought us all the way there.
