What does Dubai 24 Hours Endurance Race mean for the city?

The countdown to the Hankook 24 Hours Dubai has begun, with 120 cargo containers containing race vehicles and equipment having landed in Dubai. The race, which will take place between January 13-15, will serve as the official kick-off to the worldwide racing season. The 24-hour race has been held at the Dubai Autodrome since 2006, when the BMW M3 GTR, driven by Philipp Peter, Dieter Quester, Hans-Joachim Stuck, and Toto Wolff, won the race in a time of 1:47:01. Since then, the event has been held every year, and it has established itself as the official start of the international motorsport season in the United States.

  • The driver from Abu Dhabi has won the race three times, in 2012, 2013 and 2020, and is the current world champion.
  • This race was won by the UAE-based team GPX Racing, who used a Porsche 911 GT3 R to win the championship last year.
  • It is projected that more than 80 teams from across the world would compete in the 2022 edition of the Dubai 24H, which features numerous classes with significant lap time disparities.
  • Furthermore, because it is the first race of the season, the event’s popularity means that the city will experience an economic boom week.
  • In addition to a tiny army of organizers, Creventic employees collaborate with their Autodrome colleagues to ensure that everything runs well.
  • Consequently, the event’s entourage is projected to book over 13,000 hotel nights, with Motor City’s Park Inn being completely filled both before of and throughout race week itself.

“Under the patronage of the Crown Prince of Dubai and President of Dubai Autodrome, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Autodrome began to host international motorsport events shortly after the circuit was completed in 2004,” said Faisal Al Sahlawi, Dubai Autodrome General Manager, of their signature event.

We appreciate the fact that our event will serve as the official start of not just the worldwide motorsport season, but also the official start of the United Arab Emirates’ spectacular international sports calendar.” As a bonus to the athletic aspect of the event, we are pleased to report that it has shown and demonstrable economic benefit for not only Motor City and its neighboring areas, but also for broader Dubai.” We estimate about 25,000 spectators over the course of the three days of qualifying and racing, and we have planned a variety of events and paddock entertainment for them to enjoy throughout their visit.

The start of the race, when the field of over 80 vehicles is flagged off in front of a packed grandstand, is, without a doubt, the highlight of the whole weekend.

It was a spectacular show, and we at Dubai Autodrome were honored to be a part of it.” The free practice sessions for the 24 Hours of Dubai will take place on January 11 and 12, with qualifying taking place on January 13 and the race starting at 3pm on January 14.

Camel Racing Dubai

In the early twentieth century, Dubai was a little fishing and pearling hamlet on the banks of the creek. In this arid desert environment, life was difficult. They raised sheep and goats for food and wool, as well as for other purposes. During the winter, wool was a must-have item. They hunted with falcons and fought with horses in their conflicts. The most important thing is that they have adopted one animal as a part of their daily routine. It would have been difficult for them to survive in the desert if it hadn’t been for these monsters.

In the opinion of the other, it was due to the extraordinary capacity of these creatures to travel the desert while carrying such a large amount of weight on their backs.

Camels and Arab heritage

Arabs considered camels to be a cherished property. They took great pleasure in the quantity of camels they possessed at any given time. Camels were pricey, but they were also useful as a source of wool, food, and transportation for the wealthy. Camel wool was once used to make the Agals (the black ring that Arab women wear on top of their headdresses), which are now manufactured of synthetic fibers. If you want to understand Arabs’ fascination with camels, have a look at the volumes of poetry they wrote about them.

  • Poetry was ingrained in their veins.
  • Even now, despite the fact that modern technology has taken over most of Dubai, the people of Dubai still adore their camels.
  • Camel rides are no longer available in Dubai’s urban area, save as tourist attractions.
  • Some Bedouin families, however, continue to own and ride camels to this day.

Dubai Camel Racing

Camel racing is all about finding the beauty in the midst of mayhem. Camel races were held as part of weddings and other events in the ancient world. Nevertheless, the UAE and its neighboring countries have seen a technological boom in the recent century. As the camel racing tradition faded away with the advent of technology, the authorities of Dubai took notice of what was happening and took steps to preserve it. They worked hard to bring this aspect of Arab history back to life. Today, the camel race is one of the most lucrative sporting events on the planet.

  • In addition, the owner of the winning camel receives a substantial sum of money.
  • Camel owners from nearby countries such as Oman and Saudi Arabia are also invited to take part in this sporting event.
  • During the winter months, from October and April, the camel racing season takes place.
  • The races are held in the early hours of the morning on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • You may also watch the camels run on the enormous screens that have been set up in the grandstands.
  • We hope that this will become more commonplace in the coming years.
  • However, there will be a significant rush.
  • Arrive early on race day to ensure that you have a good seat.

Camel races, in contrast to horse races, when everyone dresses to impress, are more laid-back affairs. Camel races are a great opportunity to learn about Dubai’s history and culture while having a good time.

Robot Jockeys – Camel Racing

The traditional sport of camel racing has been revolutionized via the application of technology. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) outlawed the use of juveniles in camel racing in 2001. However, at the same time, the globe witnessed the rise of robot jockeys on the track. Before the arrival of the robots, juvenile jockeys used to ride the racing camels. As a result, robot jockeys are a more secure option to human jockeys. Humans are also heavier than camels, which causes the camel to move more slowly.

At the moment, a typical robot jockey weighs around 27 kilograms—the lower the weight, however, the faster the camel moves.

Al Marmoum Camel Racing

There are several camel racing tracks in Dubai, but the Al Marmoum camel racing track, which is operated by the Dubai Camel Racing Club, is the largest. It is located in the Al Lisaili neighborhood, next to the Al Marmoum history town, around half an hour’s drive from Dubai’s main city. Camel races are staged in this city as part of the city’s annual historical celebrations. The annual championship camel race at Al Marmoum is the most prominent camel race held in Dubai. The winning team in this race receives luxury automobiles, prize money in the amount of 80 million dirhams, and trophies.

The Camel Race Day

Many camel racing tracks exist in Dubai, but the Al Marmoum camel racing track, which is operated by the Dubai Camel Racing Club, is by far the largest. It is located in the Al Lisaili neighborhood, next to the Al Marmoum heritage town, around 30 minutes from Dubai’s main city. As part of the city’s annual historical festivities, camel races are staged. Camel racing’s most significant event in Dubai is the yearly championship at Al Marmoum. Luxury automobiles, prize money in the amount of 80 million dirhams, and trophies are awarded to the winning team in this event.

Camel hospitals and camel laboratory

The Al Marmum racing track serves as the primary facility for the upkeep of race camels in the city of Dubai. In this facility, the camel laboratory performs research on camels in order to improve their endurance and resilience. This facility, which operates under the stringent constraints of the Emirates Camel Racing Federation, develops genetically altered camels that are stronger and quicker through selective breeding and cloning. Before every primary race, the laboratory tests compete for camels in order to detect malpractices like as doping.

The Race Camels

Dromedary camels are the most common type of camel found in the Arabian Peninsula and northern Africa. Single-humped camels are higher than their counterparts and have evolved to live in intense temperatures. They are a two-humped camel variation known as the Bactrian, and they may be found in Central Asian countries. There are no other animals utilized for racing but dromedaries, and female camels are the most sought after of them. In the United Arab Emirates, only particular breeds of camels are used as racing camels: the local breed Mahaliyat, the Sudanese breed Sudaniyat, the Omaniyat from Oman, and the interbred Muhajanat, among others.

Camel racing begins as early as two years of age for the camels selected for the race.

The authorities, on the other hand, do not keep track of the age of each camel.

Instead, the size of a camel’s teeth is used to identify its age, which is a more accurate method. Camels that have been approved for racing are marked with special sprays. Those who do not have this mark are not permitted to participate in the race.

Try camel sports yourself.

It is possible to participate in camel sports at a few locations within the city of Dubai. Camel polo is played at the Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club, which has facilities.

Major camel racing tracks in the UAE

Despite the fact that there are around 15 camel racing tracks in the country, the following are the three most important: Al Marmoum is the first of them. 2 – AL Wathba in Abu Dhabi; 3 – Al Sawan in Ras Al Khaimah.

Major camel racing events in Dubai

The following are the two major camel racing championships held in Dubai:

  • The Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Camel Race Festival, as well as the Al Marmoum historical festival, are both taking place this year.

Take a dive into the Bedouin heritage

If you want to learn more about Dubai’s history, the desert is the finest spot to begin your journey. A desert safari in Abu Dhabi will allow you to experience life in a desert camp like the ancient Arabs did for a short period of time. You will also get the opportunity to ride camels and participate in a variety of other desert activities.

Collin Morikawa Begins His Race to Dubai Defense Back in the Middle East

Collin Morikawa will begin his 2022 season in the Middle East, where he spent the previous season. Golffile’s Eoin Clarke has contributed to this article. The British Open was Collin Morikawa’s first major victory, and he has become accustomed to being referred to as “champion golfer of the year” since winning the tournament in May 2012. For the first time in his career, the Californian has been referred to as the “reigning Race to Dubai champion,” and the moniker suits him just well. According to Morikawa, “there’s a lot of weight bearing down on (my) shoulders right now.” ‘It’s a great weight to be carrying, and I’m determined to come back as strong as I can.’ Morikawa, the first American golfer to finish a season atop the European Tour’s rankings, has returned to the Middle East to begin the defense of the year-long championship he won in Dubai in November.

Likewise, for Morikawa, it’s all about sustaining the high standards he established in his first couple of years as a professional, which is a tall order for someone who already has two majors and a memorable Ryder Cup debut to his credit.

“It’s about how I spend my time wherever I go in the globe,” says the author.

Let’s look at his most recent five tournaments: the CJ Cup in South Korea; the Zozo Championship in Japan; the World Tour Championship in the United Arab Emirates; the World Challenge in the Bahamas; and the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, the most recent of which took place this past weekend.

  • 2 in the world.
  • As someone who frequently appears and speaks with wisdom much beyond his 24 years, it comes as no surprise that he found something positive in the situation.
  • “How do I learn from these negative experiences, and how do I, you know, if I make a mistake with a cut or whatever it may be, how do I avoid making the same mistake again?” I don’t think of it in terms of highs and lows.
  • When it comes to me, it’s simply a matter of having a good week or a poor week, things happen, and that’s what we do.” With a victory over Morikawa in the Bahamas, Viktor Hovland is also in the field for the Abu Dhabi Championship, which will be held at Yas Links this week.
  • Additionally, Rory McIlroy will be in action, having been spotted with a torn T-shirt on the European Tour shortly after his final-round collapse in Dubai, which allowed Morikawa to win the tournament.
  • In late 2018, the tour was forced to postpone the start of its 2022 season because just one of three scheduled events in South Africa was held as a result of an epidemic of the omicron strain of the coronavirus, which spread throughout the country.
  • The restriction on extremely detailed green-reading books, which went into effect recently, is particularly relevant.

For the rest of the week, I’m going to have to spend a little more time out there prepping and understanding what to do because if I’m not paying attention to where a slope is, and I accidentally hit it and am a little shocked, that’s going to be an issue for the entire week.”

Hot Rod Charlie Powers Clear to Win in Dubai, World Cup Next

Hot Rod Charlie swept the crowds off their feet in his Meydan Racecourse debut on Feb. 4, putting himself in a strong position to compete in the Dubai World Cup Sponsored by Emirates Airline, which will take place in seven weeks. The colt’s trainer, Doug O’Neill, said he “undertrained” Hot Rod Charlie for his dominant performance in the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 2 and warned potential rivals to stay away from the big race. O’Neill saddled two winners and two seconds on the seven-race card, serving notice to potential rivals eyeing the big race.

  1. The winner of the 1,900-meter (about 1 3/16 miles) Al Maktoum Challenge Round 2 by 5 14 lengths, despite the fact that his final margin of victory would suggest otherwise, Hot Rod Charlie had to fight hard for a while before drawing away in the last furlong to win by 5 14 lengths.
  2. He gained the rail position and raced head-to-head with Al Nefud and jockey Ryan Moore through the first bend, down the backstretch, and around into the straight.
  3. Al Nefud was in second place, with Everfast, an American transplant, in third.
  4. “I just tried to keep things as straightforward as possible,” Buick said.
  5. “He’s a fantastic horse,” says the rider.
  6. The $12 million Dubai race, according to O’Neill and part-owner Bill Strauss, was chosen by the Oxbow colt’s massive ownership group after Hot Rod Charlie finished fourth in theLongines Breeders’ Cup Classicat Del Mar last November.
  7. “At this point, the objective is to keep him here, and the time between now and the World Cup is ideal,” O’Neill explained.

A roaring start for O’Neill, who has eight horses at the Carnival and is off to a good start. In addition to Hot Rod Charlie’s impressive victory, he saddled Get Back Goldie to victory in the opening Thoroughbred event of the Feb. 4 schedule, and he also finished second in two more races.

24H Dubai: new BMW M4 GT3 passes endurance test at first official race appearance.

Dubai. The new flagship from BMW M Motorsport has successfully completed an endurance test in the Nevada desert. With the new BMW M4 GT3 in the hands of BMW M Motorsport teams, the 24H Dubai (UAE) from Friday to Saturday represented the first racing debut for the new car after a successful FIA homologation process last season. At the season-opening race in the 24H Series, ST Racing and Schubert Motorsport participated with a total of three BMW M4 GT3s, which they built themselves. On Saturday morning, after 24 hours of racing, which included many Code 60 periods as well as a sandstorm, all three vehicles crossed the finish line to make their racing debut.

  • Jon Miller (USA), Nick Wittmer (Canada), Louis-Philippe Montour (Canada), and Chandler Hull (USA) were the drivers of the automobile (USA).
  • The30 suffered a significant setback during the lengthy repair pause that followed.
  • For much of the race, the BMW M4 GT3 from ST Racing, which was participating in the Pro-Am class, was the best-placed BMW M4 GT3 in the field and looked to be on its way to a podium finish in its division.
  • It then placed sixth in the Pro-Am class, driven by Samantha Tan (Canada), Bryson Morris, Anthony Lazzaro, Harry Gottsacker, and Tyler Maxson (all from the United States).
  • The new GT vehicle will make its debut in the season-opening race in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IMSA series), the renowned 24 Hours of Daytona (USA), where BMW M Team RLL and Turner Motorsport will compete.
  • They achieved a number of podium places in their respective divisions.
  • Immediately behind them, in fourth and fifth places, were the 429 of Century Motorsport and the 451 of Team AVIA Sorg Rennsport, respectively.

Schubert Motorsport took sixth position in the same class with the 200 BMW M2 CS Racing, which was entered by Schubert Motorsport.

According to Achim Klein, BMW M Motorsport Project Lead for the BMW M4 GT3: “It was an amazing couple of days for us here in Dubai.

Two of the three competing BMW M4 GT3s were flown directly from production to Dubai, where they were greeted by the BMW M Motorsport crews and put through their paces.

ST Racing and Schubert Motorsport contributed significantly to this project.

We saw that in the early parts of the race; we were consistently in the top five for a long period of time, and for the first half of the race, we were consistently in the top ten overall, so we are confident in the BMW M4 GT3’s ability.

Just a few days ago, we received the car directly from the manufacturer and began testing it here at the track.

The other component is, of course, our group.

We did an excellent job together.

It would have been lovely to finish on the podium, but we were always aware that this was a new vehicle and that there were a lot of unknowns at the start of the season.

“I am quite pleased.” The Schubert Motorsport Team Principal, Torsten Schubert, stated, “We were well aware that the first race would be difficult.” The testing phase began on Tuesday here in Dubai.

That is preferable to any other rollout in which you are operating alone on the race course.

Unfortunately, we were involved in an accident after being struck by a rival.

The BMW M4 GT3 is a well-balanced automobile.

But that is to be expected.

This was the first time I had competed in a 24-hour race with my two sons in a three-driver lineup, and it was a lot of fun.

It is really simple to understand, and the functions on the BMW M4 GT3 are very appealing to me.

Despite the fact that I had no previous GT3 experience, driving the BMW M4 GT3 on the course was quite enjoyable and simple.

I put in a lot of track time out there, and I gained a lot of knowledge and experience during the week, which helped me develop significantly.

“We have an extremely powerful vehicle.” Samantha Tan, 1 BMW M4 GT3, ST Racing: “It was a fantastic experience to be one of the first drivers in the world to race this vehicle in an official capacity.” It was a bit overwhelming to make the transition from the GT4 to the GT3, but with the emphasis on our teams, I believe I was able to adjust very quickly to the BMW M4 GT3.

  • Obviously, there were a lot of things I needed to learn during the course of the weekend, but overall, it was a fantastic experience.
  • The vehicle has a great deal of promise.
  • We are confident that the vehicle is capable of performing admirably; all of the development and testing that we conducted over the past 18 months has proven fruitful, and I am extremely pleased with the results.
  • Even if the final outcome was a little disappointing, given the speed with which we were able to demonstrate it, especially near the end, I am generally pleased with it.

A terrific job was done by the staff. “To complete a 24-hour race with only a short roll-out and then immediately thereafter is an incredible accomplishment.”
