Everything you must do in Dubai

Traveling to the top of the world’s tallest structure, the Burj Khalifa, is an excellent way to begin your time in Dubai and obtain an understanding for the magnitude of the city. You can get panoramic views of the entire city from here, albeit keep in mind that the view changes on a daily basis! On the day of our visit, the view was somewhat foggy, but on a clear day, you can see for miles in all directions.

Sunrise and sunset are other lovely times to come and find yourself on top of the clouds, but make sure you plan your visit at least a few weeks in advance of your vacation because the tower is booked out every day of the week! The Burj Khalifa is the location. The cost is $40 USD per participant.

When I arrived in Singapore following my 14-hour journey from Australia, my first point of call was the hotel swimming pool to get some rest before the day ahead. The city of Dubai offers a plethora of things to choose from, but if you’re looking for peace and quiet, there’s no better place to go than the desert in the UAE. Platinum Heritage, which transports passengers to Al Maha, a private desert reserve in Dubai, remains my favorite operator despite the fact that I’ve been to Dubai’s desert a couple of times recently. This reserve is owned by the royal family, who have a weekend residence here as well as a stake in the tour firm, which is recognized for providing guests with the most realistic and immersive desert safari experience possible.

Prices start at $160 USD per person for the Heritage Safari and Camel Safari, respectively.

4. Experience the Talise Spa at the Burj Al Arab

Arriving at the Talise Spa, which is located on the eighteenth level of the Burj Al Arab and is one of my favorite experiences on all of my journeys to Dubai has been one of my favorite parts of every trip. This hotel is famous for being the world’s only seven-star establishment, a term that is not quite accurate (five stars being the worldwide maximum), but once you step inside, you’ll understand why it earned this distinction. The spa is a mosaic tile wonderland, packed with millions of them, many of which are gold (which is stunning to see in person!).

Price for a 45-minute neck massage: $80 Access to spa facilities is included in the $176 USD per person fee.

5. Visit the Spice and Gold Souks

It took me several trips to Dubai before I eventually made it to the souks, owing to their remote position (a short cab journey out of the way) and the fact that they were said to be a bit (correction: a lot!) too touristic. Although this is true, visiting the souks is a fantastic opportunity to get a sense for “ancient Dubai,” especially if it is your first time visiting one. They don’t compare to the experiences you’ll have in Muscat (Oman) or Marrakech (Morocco), but they’re still worth going on for the sake of the experience alone.

There is no charge for this service.

6. See the Dubai Fountain Show

During the evenings, tourists to Dubai may experience the world-famous Dubai fountain show, which takes place outside the Dubai Mall and beneath the Burj Khalifa. When viewed against the backdrop of the Burj Kahlifa’s sparkling lights, the display is rather speccy and interesting to watch, despite its modest size.

Thiptara Thai Restaurant is my favorite spot to see the fountain display, and it is also where I first discovered it. Place of performance: Dubai Fountain Show / Thiptara There is no charge for this service.

7. Go Skiing indoors at Ski Dubai

Even if it was not the nicest ski experience I’ve ever had (admittedly, I’m comparing it to the alpine scenery of places like Zermatt, Arosa, Jasper, and Chile), it was still a memorable one! There’s just one chairlift and one full run, but if you’re looking for something to do in the Mall of the Emirates and want to see what all the hype is about, this is a terrific way to spend a couple of hours. Ski Dubai, Mall of the Emirates are some of the locations. The cost is $74 per person.

8. Go Dune Bashing in the Desert

9. Overload on Arabic Pastries

One of my favorite features of a vacation to the Middle East is still getting to sample all of the delectable Arabic desserts that are available! Even while my personal favorite is still the traditional and reliable baklava, you’ll be spoilt for choice because there are so many varieties around the continent. Price: varies depending on the item.

10. Spend the Day at Jumeirah Beach

If you want to relax in the sun while on vacation, Jumeirah Beach will be a great choice for you. Personally, I have a short attention span, so I only stayed on the beach for about 20 minutes before moving on to another activity (ha!) The beaches do not compare to the beauty of Australian beaches, yet I have found it difficult to locate beaches that are similar anywhere else in the world outside of the Pacific! Jumeirah Beach is the location. Non-alcoholic beverages are available for 50 dirhams (which is not inexpensive!).

11. Encounter Marine Wildlife at the Dubai Aquarium

The protection and teaching of marine animals is a prominent subject in Dubai, with two extremely large and magnificent aquariums housed at both the Dubai Aquarium and the Lost Chamber at the Dubai Mall, among other locations. For me, seeing wildlife in cages is a turn-off, but if you’re traveling with children, this is a terrific opportunity to educate them about conservation and to inform them about the programs that are taking place. The Dubai Aquarium is located within the Dubai Mall. Price: $28 per person for the underwater zoo; free if you are standing at the viewing point in the retail center.

12. Take a Hot Air Balloon Ride over the Desert

On our last morning in Dubai, we got up at 4:00 a.m. to go on a hot air balloon trip over the desert, which was an unforgettable experience. Despite the fact that this was my third hot air balloon ride, it was by far the most memorable. The view and surroundings of the desert were incomparably beautiful when compared to other hot air balloon trips! The location is the Dubai Desert. Price: $360 USD per person if you include Platinum Heritage.

13. Step inside Talise Ottoman Spa at Jumeirah Zabeel Saray

If you enjoy pampering yourself, the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray Spa is another great option to check out while in Dubai.

If you’re not staying on the palm, the property is a little out of the way, but the spa is really worth it! It is popular not just with out-of-town visitors, but also with the locals. The Jumeirah Zabeel Saray is the location. The cost of treatment varies, starting at $150 USD.

14. Stay Overnight in the Desert

For those searching for a more authentic trip, staying overnight at a traditional Bedouin Camp is another option for getting a taste of the desert in Dubai. You may join a safari excursion in the late afternoon, then spend the night beneath the stars before waking up to a traditional bedouin breakfast the next morning. Platinum Heritage Safari Tours offers a discounted rate for this add-on to a chosen safari package.

15. Check out the Palace Hotel Downtown

In addition to being one of my favorite hotels in Dubai, it is also one of the most gorgeous places to visit even if you aren’t planning on staying there. When visiting the Palace Hotel Downtown, make sure to walk through the Souks, which connect the hotel and the Dubai Mall. This will allow you to appreciate the symmetry of the hotel’s exterior. The lobby is extremely stunning, and visitors who are not staying at the hotel can stop by for a drink or a meal at one of the restaurants. My favorite restaurant in the area is Thiptara Thai Restaurant, which is linked to the hotel and offers an incredible view of the Dubai Fountain Show.

16. Take a Boat Ride at Madinat Jumeirah

In the event that you find yourself on Jumeirah Beach, make a point of stopping by the Madinat Jumeirah for a classic boat ride down the shoreline. There are several restaurants and beach clubs in this region where you may stop for a drink and a bite to eat. The fact that this is a primarily residential area of town makes it a wonderful place to check out if you’re thinking about relocating to Dubai (remember, the United Arab Emirates offers some excellent tax incentives!) If you’re thinking about making the journey to the center of the world, there are several excellent movers and packers in Dubai who can assist you.

17. Book a Room with a View

The greatest way to see Dubai is often from your hotel window or balcony, so make sure to request a room with a view when booking your stay. Some of the most spectacular vistas may frequently be found in the Dubai business area, which is not often considered a top destination for leisure travelers. This picture is from the Shangri-La Downtown Dubai, which is more of a business hotel than a resort, but it has unquestionably one of the nicest views of Dubai!

18. Eat a Milkshake for Lunch

For years, this small treasure has been on my gourmet bucket list in New York, but the lines have always been so lengthy that I’ve always ended up going with a second option somewhere else instead. My vacation to Dubai seemed predestined as soon as I learned that Black Tap had established a restaurant in the city. In addition to their milkshakes (which may cost up to $25 AUD in Dubai), they also serve up an exceptionally tasty burger at their location in Dubai. It’s not inexpensive, but what else is there to do in Dubai, if anything?

A milkshake will set you back $18 USD, but it’s well worth it in the end.

19. See Dubai From Above

One of the adventures in Dubai that I have yet to attempt is also one of the most popular — a helicopter trip above the city to get a bird’s eye view of the Palm Jumeirah.

It is a terrific opportunity to explore Dubai from above and get a birdseye view of the city (a less expensive option would be to climb to the top of the Burj Khalifa and hope for clear skies!) Heli Dubai is the location. Price: $180 USD per person for 12 minutes of time.

20. Spot Wildlife in the Dubai Desert

Taking part in a wildlife safari in the desert, where you may spot the elusive Oryx and Gazelle, is another activity that I would definitely suggest. It took me three trips to Dubai before I was able to actually accomplish this, but it has to be one of my favorite experiences! The location is the Dubai Desert.

21. Check out the Atlantis the Palm Hotel

The Atlantis Hotel, one of Dubai’s most famous landmarks, is a must-see for every tourist to the city, and it is included in most visitors’ Dubai itineraries. The hotel is frequently booked and does not come cheaply, but the good news is that you may pay a visit to the property without having to stay there. If you are not a hotel guest, you will only be permitted to enter the restricted parts of the property (like the Aquaventure park, Lost Chambers, shopping area and restaurants). The Atlantis on the Palm in Dubai is the location.

22. Make a Day Trip to Abu Dhabi

The cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi are so close together that failing to take at least a day excursion to the neighboring city of Abu Dhabi will be a disservice to your travel experience in the UAE. I would recommend paying a visit to the Grand Mosque (which is truly a site to see), the Emirates Palace (which is well worth seeing), and, if you haven’t already, taking a trip out to the desert. Visiting Dubai in the late fall through early spring—anytime between November and March—when typical temperatures range between the mid 70s and the high 80s Fahrenheit and you may enjoy the outdoors (given you’re wearing sunscreen) are the ideal times to go. Summer temperatures in Dubai hover above 100°F and are accompanied by excessive humidity, making the city seem like a sauna from May to September. However, hotel costs may be reduced by up to 75% during this time period, and you can easily bounce from one air-conditioned attraction to another.

Getting around

Walking is difficult in Dubai because of the heat and the motorways, while it is simpler to get around on foot in Deira and other older neighborhoods. Go skiing in the desert

Not sand skiing, but you can do it in Dubai as well. I’m referring about other types of water sports. Located within the sprawling Mall of the Emirates, Ski Dubai has constructed a 22,500 square meter indoor ski facility equipped with lifts and tubing lines. In our opinion, as Canadians who live near to one of Canada’s top ski resorts (Big White), the thought of indoor skiing seems bizarre. Even though we’ve always linked skiing with expansive blue sky and towering mountains, we’d be interested in trying indoor skiing as well.

In addition, you may try zorbing on ice or race your pals down a subzero dual zipline course. The penguin encounter, if that isn’t enough, will allow you to get up close and personal with penguins. I believe our children would come only for the penguins!

Get frosty

When we initially started thinking about visiting Dubai, we made sure to check the weather because we’d heard it can get rather hot there. According to some reports, temperatures as high as 41 degrees Celsius (105 degrees Fahrenheit) are not uncommon in the region. Wow! The Chillout Lounge, which is entirely made of ice and has an ambient temperature of -6 °C (42 °F), is a great place to chill off after being out in the blistering heat for a while. With summer temperatures in Dubai reaching 42 degrees Celsius (106 degrees Fahrenheit), the 36 degrees Celsius (64 degrees Fahrenheit) temperature differential may be quite a shock to the system.

Get wet

Snorkeling, kayaking, and even boogie boarding are among our favorite water activities, and you can generally find us at the beach. The difficulty with Dubais is that they are primarily comprised of desert. Having said that, there are several options for staying cool in the water. One of Dubai’s three huge waterparks is a great place to spend the day refreshing your skin. From large slides to large pools, you can be assured of having a lot of fun. Just make sure you carry your sunblock with you.

You’ve had a hard day of viewing the sights in Dubai and you need to rest. In Dubai, the Scoopi Cafe, one of the city’s most distinctive eateries, serves the city’s most costly ice cream dish, which costs over $800 USD each serving.

Although the Black Diamond is a golden delicacy that only a select few have the opportunity to enjoy, this does not deter visitors from exploring the other delicious treats available at this fashionable ice cream store.

Camel ho!

Following our experience riding dromedary camels in the Moroccan Sahara desert, we’ve grown to appreciate and respect these gentle creatures. Even our then four-year-old daughter enjoyed camel riding! It’s no wonder that camels played a part in Dubai’s ascent to prominence, given the fact that the city is located in the middle of a desert. When it comes to camels, whether you’re watching a race replete with robot jockeys or enjoying an exhilarating match of camel polo, the people of Dubai have a deep-seated affection for them that extends beyond their love of sports.

You’re in luck since you can also ride on your own. I can assure you that riding one will be a memorable way to spend the day.

Submerge yourself

As avid swimmers, we’re looking forward to checking out some of Dubai’s most beautiful swimming pools. Due to the city’s penchant for extravagance, as well as the fact that it receives practically constant sunshine throughout the year, it comes as no surprise that Dubai is home to some of the world’s most stunning swimming pools. This huge, ever-changing flower paradise, which includes giant structures covered in flowers as well as fields of captivating floral patterns, may make you believe you’re in Alice in Wonderland rather than a hot desert, according to some visitors.

The world’s tallest structure is at the top of most tourists’ must-see lists when they visit Dubai. The Burj Khalifa, which stands 163 storeys (about 830 meters) tall, is an excellent destination for a family excursion, thanks to its magnificently manicured gardens and lake below, which is home to the free nightly Dubai fountain show, as well as its observation decks on the 124th/125th and 148th levels. Wind towers were installed on the roofs of ancient opulent houses built of coral and limestones, serving as the equivalent of modern-day air conditioning. The Al Faihidi Historical Neighbourhood, formerly known as Bastakia, is located on the eastern side of Bur Dubai, on the banks of Dubai Creek, and is one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods. In addition to the historic architecture, the Majlis Gallery exhibits traditional Arab pottery and furnishings, while the XVA Gallery showcases a more contemporary art collection in a more contemporary setting.

8. Sheikh Sayeed Al-Maktoum House

This is another fantastic museum that is located in an ancient royal residence. During his reign as ruler of Dubai from 1921 to 1958, Sheikh Sayeed Al-Maktoum resided in this mansion, which was initially erected in 1896 by his father. The home was completely renovated and converted into a museum, although the original architecture has been kept throughout. The Dubai Museum of Historical Photographs and Documents has taken over the space previously occupied by the museum.

The historic economy of fishing and pearl diving are represented in part by the Dubai Creek area of the city. Dhows would dock at the Dhow Wharfage and travel to and from various locations around the Middle East, India, and even Africa. Dubai Creek is a waterway that connects Deira in the north to Bur Dubai in the south. There are dhows and traditional wooden boats available for hiring for a cruise down the Creek to explore the area.

10. Deira and the Souks

Deira, which is located on the north shore of Dubai Creek, is a vibrant blend of ancient Dubai and contemporary Dubai, with banks, hotels, and office buildings interspersed throughout the neighborhood.

Tourists go to this city in enormous numbers to see the historic souks, which include the world’s largest gold souk, spice souk, and fish market, among others.

11. Sheikh Zayed Road

It runs through the heart of Dubai’s contemporary corporate district, and it is flanked on both sides by steel, glass, and chrome buildings, which together form the world’s densest concentration of modern high-rises. This location provides the greatest views of the magnificent Dubai skyscrapers from the ground or from the street. Many of Dubai’s luxury hotels and shopping centers are located along this famous avenue, including the Gold and Diamond Park, which houses 30 merchants and 118 producers all in one location for jewelry enthusiasts.

12. The BeachThe Walk JBR

However, while Jumeriah Beach Park, with its magnificent white sand and views of the Burj Al Arab, is one of Dubai’s most popular beaches, our favorite for families is The Beach, which is located in the JBR section of the city. There is a public beach, as well as sun loungers for hire, and there is usually a lot going on here. The Walk, which is nearby, offers a variety of culinary alternatives, as well as a small splash park that is ideal for children. Shower and toilet facilities are available, as is access to the beach and water sports activities in plenty.

13. Mall of the Emirates

However, while Jumeriah Beach Park, with its magnificent white sand and vistas of the Burj Al Arab, is one of Dubai’s most popular beaches, The Beach in the JBR region of Dubai is our favorite for families. An open-air beach, sun loungers for rent, and plenty of activities are available at this location. Your children will enjoy the little splash park located nearby at The Walk, which offers a wide variety of culinary alternatives. Bathroom facilities are available, as is access to the beach and a variety of water activities.

14. IMG Worlds of Adventure

This internationally renowned theme park is one of the most popular indoor family attractions in Dubai. The main park is divided into three zones, each of which include rides related to Marvel, Cartoon Network, and the Lost World — all of which are dinosaur-themed. The Haunted Hotel thrill coaster is located on the center IMG Boulevard and is quite popular with visitors. It is not the finest park for babies (because to height limits), but those with adolescents and tweens will discover that there is much to do here, and the best thing is that it is fully inside, making it appropriate all year round.

16. Dubai Parks and Resorts

There are four major theme parks in this purpose-built adventure playground on the outskirts of Dubai, which is the largest of its type in the Middle East. Motiongate, Legoland, Legoland Waterpark, and Bollywood Parks are among the attractions. In Riverland Dubai, which links the theme parks, there are plenty of theme rides, including Hollywood and Bollywood movie blockbuster themes, water rides, as well as a variety of restaurants and evening entertainment options.

This waterpark is located on the grounds of Atlantis The Palm, which is an internationally acclaimed resort. Aquaconda, the world’s largest water slide, Leap of Faith – a nine-story-tall water slide and coaster rides, and more water thrills are available for family enjoyment at Aquacon. The journey is rounded out with an underwater safari, a water-sports area for youngsters, and a white sand beach stretching over 700 meters.

17. Luxury Yachting Experience

Because of Dubai’s wide canals, it is one of the greatest destinations in the world to enjoy luxury yachting and other water activities. Take advantage of the opportunity to charter a boat in Dubai and spend your time sailing across the crystal blue seas of the Persian Gulf. Travel to spectacular water destinations such as The World or the Palm Jumeirah, go fishing, and enjoy freshly caught fish prepared by the ship’s culinary team.
