Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary

Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, which translates as ‘Head of the Creek’ in Arabic, is an excellent destination for short Dubai day excursions. The Ras Al Khor Sanctuary, which is the only area in Dubai where you’ll be able to see flamingos, may not be as well-known as it should be due of the abundance of retail malls, but it is a delightfully different experience for visitors. Located in Dubai, the Dubai Creek is a saltwater creek that runs through the city. It is lined with beautiful mangroves and flanked by salt and mudflats.

Photographers may consider this one-of-a-kind marsh of untouched nature to be a photographer’s paradise.

A journey to Ras Al Khor provides a rare opportunity to witness a side of Dubai that is radically different from the glossy picture of the city that most people are familiar with.

Ras Al Khor is sometimes known as the Dubai Bird Park, despite the fact that it is not officially recognized as such.

In addition to the pink flamingos that attract attention throughout the winter, you’ll see reefs, great egrets, cormorants, herons, black-winged shorebirds, grey herons, sandpipers, and a variety of other species in this area.

What to see in Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary

There are three accessible hides (platforms) that house fantastically sharp binoculars: the Flamingo Hide, which is located on the sanctuary’s western edge near the flamingo roost off the junction of Al Wasl and Oud Metha Rds; the Al Buhaira Lagoon, which is located near Al Jadaf; and the Mangrove Hide, which is located on the sanctuary’s southern edge overlooking the mangrove forest off Ras Al Khor Rd Broad-billed sandpipers and Pacific golden plovers are frequently seen in the area, while great spotted eagles and other raptors can be seen patrolling the sky throughout the winter months as well.

The value of RAKES was recognized worldwide in 2007 by the Ramsar Convention, a world convention for the conservation of wetlands that was signed in 1971 in the Iranian city of Ramsar and ratified in 2007.

Feb 2020FriendsWe have been living in Dubai for some years and have recently passed by the gorgeous Flamingos from a distance.

During the winter, the viewing deck is open from 7:30am to 9am; we went early to avoid the crowds, but were told by the caretaker that it is best to return at 9am because it was still early and cold, and the Flamingos would not be coming out.

When we returned at 9:30 a.m., the flamingos were out and they were really stunning.

We were informed that feeding time is between 10 and 11 a.m.

Starting at 10:30am, the little viewing area becomes busy and raucous as more and more tourists arrive to take in the sights.

Thank you very much!
