By 1843, this had resulted in a ten-year cease-fire. When the sheikdoms realized the benefits of being free to trade and harvest pearls unhindered, they signed the Perpetual Pact of Maritime Peace in 1853, which made the stipulations of the 1843 treaty “perpetual and inviolable.” The Exclusive Agreement (also known as the Treaty of 1892) established a strong relationship between the Trucial Sheikdoms and the United Kingdom, with the latter becoming a recognized British Protectorate. It was decided that the sheiks would not form into alliances with other countries (until their assent was obtained) or dispose of any land in exchange for being protected from any assault. The sheikdoms of Kalba and Fujairah were admitted as members of the Trucial States in 1936 and 1952, respectively. The United Kingdom stated in 1968 that it would no longer recognize the Trucial State as a protectorate after the year 1971. This resulted in a series of discussions between the United Arab Emirates, as well as Qatar and Bahrain, regarding the formation of a federation. Following their decision to withdraw, the remaining two emirates eventually agreed to join forces on July 18, 1971, to become the United Arab Emirates (UAE). On December 2, 1971, all of these emirates joined together to form the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Ras al-Khaimah was the seventh and last emirate to join the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on February 10, 1972, becoming the modern-day UAE.

Muslims are not permitted to eat or drink between the hours of sunrise and dusk (with some small exceptions). In order to foster a courteous environment during this time, Dubai maintains severe restrictions prohibiting people from eating in public places. Having said that, rules have been more lenient over time, and many, many eateries are now open during the day, generally with partitions or curtains to provide privacy.

Many schools, government agencies, and companies will adjust their hours to allow for a relaxation period in the afternoon, with everything resuming their normal schedules following the evening “Iftar,” or the breaking of the fast, which takes place after sunset.

Do I need a visa to visit Dubai?
