In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Dubai (also known as Dubayy) is a city on the Persian Gulf that serves as the capital. Its southern border is with Abu Dhabi, its northern border with Sharjah, and its southern border with Oman. Dubai is surrounded by the Arabian Desert on three sides. In 2018, the city’s population surpassed 2 million people.

Oil was found off the coast of Dubai in 1966, and despite the fact that the emirate has less oil than its neighbor Abu Dhabi, oil profits, combined with other economic activities such as aluminum, have helped to make the emirate wealthy.

Capital and Major Cities

Dubai is the name of the emirate’s capital and largest city, which is also where 90 percent of the emirate’s population resides, in and around the city. According to population estimates for 2019, the country’s population was 2.8 million, having increased by more than 230,000 people in the previous year. More than 4 million people live there during the daytime, which includes those who aren’t citizens or residents.

Area and Land Expansion

The metropolitan region around the city encompasses over 1,500 square miles (3,885 square kilometers), with the city proper being approximately 15.5 square miles (25 square kilometers) (35 sq km). The construction of man-made islands in the gulf, which will be known as Marsa Al Arab, as well as some construction in the desert areas, is expanding Dubai’s land area. The newest man-made islands, which will be called Marsa Al Arab, will be 4 million square feet (.14 square miles,.37 square kilometers) in size and will add 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) to the city’s coastline.

These are not the first constructed islands to be built along the city’s shoreline.

The prices range from $7 million to $1.8 billion. They do have certain difficulties, though, due to the fact that the sand erodes naturally and must be replenished on a regular basis, and that they are only accessible by boat or aircraft.

History of Dubai

The first recorded mention of Dubai as a city is found in the geographer Abu Abdullah al-(1014–1094) Bakri’s “Book of Geography,” which was published in 1095. When it was recognized as a hub of commerce and pearling in the Middle Ages, it was a major port city. The sheiks who governed Dubai struck a contract with the British in 1892, according to which the United Kingdom committed to “defend” Dubai from the Ottoman Empire for a period of time. During the Great Depression of the 1930s, Dubai’s pearl business came to a grinding halt.

Yes, if you appreciate learning about and experiencing new cultures, then absolutely! There are only so many things that can be done while lying on a Thai beach, so once you’ve checked that box, it’s time to put yourself through some serious challenges. There are no tourist buses in the Middle East, no hostels full of college students, and you are truly on the road in this region. And Dubai is an excellent starting location for such an endeavor. This part of the UAE is far more liberal (in the Western sense) than much of the rest of the country, and it serves as an excellent introduction before you embark on excursions to Syria or Iraq, such as the ones I took my readers on (read about them on those links, they were fantastic trips!).

Which country is Dubai in?

Dubai is a city in the United Arab Emirates and is the capital of the country (UAE). Many people believe that it is the country’s capital, although this is not the case. In reality, it is the second largest city in the United Arab Emirates. Despite the fact that Dubai is the considerably more well-known and larger city of the two, Abu Dhabi is the official capital of the United Arab Emirates. But the distance between the two cities is very short: the distance between them is less than 100 miles, and it takes just over an hour to drive between the two.

In geographical terms, this is the little peninsula of land that separates Africa from Western Asia.

What are some popular things to see and do in Dubai?

It goes without saying that you must view the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest structure. The Dubai Fountains are located beneath the Burj Khalifa, immediately outside the Dubai Mall entrance. There is a 5 minute dancing fountains show every evening from 6pm-11pm on the hour and 30 minutes past the hour, same like the one in Las Vegas, and it is really breathtaking! Visit Sunset Beach for a breathtaking view of the Burj Al Arab, the world’s most luxury hotel, which is located in Dubai. Alternatively, take an abra boat trip around Madinat Jumeriah to see the Burj Al Arab from a different, but as spectacular, perspective.

The stunningAtlantis The PalmHotel (which is a replica of the Atlantis in the Bahamas) is well worth a visit, not only for the beautiful architecture, but also for the Lost Chambers Aquarium, which is located on the premises.

Because the rules and penalties are rigorous, crime is at an all-time low in this country. Because all cabs are outfitted with CCTV, even if you forget something in the taxi, you will usually always be able to retrieve it! From October through April, Dubai has pleasant weather, with temperatures averaging approximately 28 degrees Celsius on a daily basis. It is extremely hot throughout the summer months, with temperatures reaching up to 50 degrees Celsius at times during the day.
