Description
The ship is powered by a diesel-electric propulsion system that includes three azipodazimuth thrusters. Using four-bladed fixed-pitch bronze propellers, each propeller is driven by a double wound 3-phase synchronous motor with a power rating of 14,000kW(19,000hp). She can reach a top speed of 24 knots (44 kilometers per hour; 28 miles per hour). The ship Mariner of the Seas has a total of 1,674 passenger staterooms.
Service history
The ship’s gross tonnage was upgraded from 138,279 to 139,863 in early 2018, following a month-long renovation that cost US$120 million and included the construction of more staterooms. Cruises from Port Canaveral, Florida to the Bahamas, including stops in Nassau and Coco Cay, were offered by the Mariner of the Seas in 2018. Three trips were completed in order to aid the ship’s repositioning to Miami, Florida. First, the ship went from Singapore to Dubai, then from Dubai to Barcelona, via the Suez Canal, and then from Barcelona to Miami, for the last leg.
COVID-19 pandemic
During the Coronavirus pandemic, the Miami Herald reported that, after cruises were cancelled worldwide and all passengers were disembarked, Royal Caribbean Cruises refused to comply with CDC rules to repatriate many of their crew members because of the associated costs, leading many crew members to resort to desperate measures, such as hunger strikes. On the morning of May 10, 2020, a male Chinese crew member of the shipMariner of the Seas was discovered deceased aboard the vessel.

The Serenade of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean ship, arrived in Dubai for the first time on Saturday. This is the fourth season that Royal Caribbean has operated cruises out of Dubai, with the company’s inaugural cruises departing the region in January 2010. Royal Caribbean, in partnership with Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), has organized a lavish welcoming ceremony at the Dubai Cruise Terminals in Mina Rashid, where the ship is scheduled to arrive. A large facsimile of a history village was built up near the terminal, complete with traditional activities and a performance by a local music band.
DTC also invited representatives from the cruise ship’s strategic partner DP World.
Having undergone a complete repair last year, the ship Serenade has now arrived in Dubai.
The $ 300 million rejuvenation effort, which was announced in 2011, would make every ship in the fleet our finest ship.

Green marine life in the home The Mariner of the Seas makes its maiden call at Port Rashid in the United Arab Emirates. The 23rd of May, 2013 Marina of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean International cruise ship that made its first port of call in Dubai on May 21st, was greeted by a large crowd of passengers and crew members. Another demonstration of Dubai’s growing prominence on the cruise tourism map, the maiden call was greeted with an appropriately warm and impressive welcome ceremony at Mina Rashid, which included the construction of a massive heritage village replica that featured a variety of traditional activities such as live cooking stations, a performance by the Harbiya band, Arabic hospitality (Gahwah), a falcon display, and a henna station.
- The welcome was organized by Dubai Cruise Tourism, which is a division of Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) (the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing).

Jewel of the Seas Returns to Dubai After UAE Closes Cruise Ports
The United Arab Emirates Transport Authority has declared that all cruises departing from the United Arab Emirates have been halted. In a statement released Tuesday night, the administration stated that the newest precautionary action was taken in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Muscat has previously been cancelled from the cruise liner Jewel of the Seas’ current 7-day Arabian Sea itinerary from Dubai, and the ship was set to dock in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. After sailing from Dubai, the ship officials were notified by phone by the ports of Abu Dhabi and Sir Ban Yas, advising them that the ports would be closed to cruise traffic for the foreseeable future.
Upon arrival, guests and staff were notified by the ship’s captain that there are two sick passengers onboard, one suffering from a gastrointestinal ailment and the other suffering from a sore throat, neither of whom were displaying any signs of Coronavirus infection at the time.
This is what Royal Caribbean claimed in a letter issued to passengers: “In accordance with standard cruise industry and immigration practice, we relayed information with the port of Dubai regarding two guests who are feeling under the weather.” The authorities in Dubai sought an additional screening of the persons’ difficulties out of an excess of caution and in light of the present global situation.
We would like to point out that none of these two persons meets either the CDC or the WHO requirements for being tested for COVID-19.

Warning: this is a lengthy review! We traveled as a huge family of three, with the youngest children being just 10-12 years old. Our children were playing basketball when a group of middle-aged men and teenagers grabbed them and their ball, threw them out of the court, and threatened them, saying “I’m a marine officer, I have the authority to kick you off the court if I want to, the other male adults told our children only if they can do more push-ups than they can (these are male adults in their twenties!) They are not permitted to participate in sports if they do not comply with the rules.
- When I arrived to the sports court, I was enraged to see a group of young people in their twenties among them, as well as several middle-aged men and women with drinks in their hands.
