Eating Camel Meat in Dubai – The Whole Camel Platter!

If you’ve ever wondered what camel tastes like, you may find out by traveling to Dubai. We went into Dubai to sample the city’s greatest cuisine and restaurants, as well as to catch up with our buddy Peyman Al Awadhi. He took us on a tour of the city, where we sampled the greatest cuisine and, of course, ate camel!

Our Friend Peyman

We visited with Emirati ambassador Peyman Al Awadhi, who was really enthusiastic about his country. Spending time with him (on the left) and his brother Mohammed (on the right) was a lot of fun, and it provided us with an insight into the culture of the United Arab Emirates. His insights into the cuisine and culture of the region made the vacation an amazing experience. Peyman himself is a well-known producer who has launched a number of media businesses and consulting firms. He also owns a restaurant in Dubai with his brother, Wild Peeta, which is a local restaurant that serves delectable gourmet pita sandwiches and other Mediterranean fare.

Eating Whole Camel in Dubai

Several ideas sprang to mind when Peyman and I initially explored the possibility of collaborating on something in Dubai. I had considered taking a whole street food tour of Dubai, but I wanted something a little more special, something that was more traditional and distinct. I wrote to Peyman and inquired as to whether it was still feasible to eat camel in Dubai. He was aware that it was a possibility, but he needed to figure out the specifics first. After a week of phone calls, Peyman was able to get a reservation for us at Zaman Awal restaurant in Al Boom Village, where we would be able to eat and see the cooking of the complete camel.

  • Chef Aziz and chef Abubaker, both of whom were originally from Kerala, India, greeted us as we entered the restaurant and we could see the enthusiasm in their eyes as they prepared for us a very unusual Emirati lunch, which we were delighted to receive.
  • Attending a meeting with chefs Aziz and Abubaker To be completely honest, I was taken aback by what we saw when we first stepped in.
  • Still, I was overjoyed since here was an entire masala camel that we were about to consume in the traditional Emirati manner.
  • The camel’s entire body was coated with masala!
  • Peyman stated that bedouin tribespeople have relied on the camel for existence from the beginning of civilization, and that this has been the case for thousands of years.
  • Today, the best way to enjoy it was to have it prepared for you at a restaurant.
  • Observing the masala being rubbed and talking with the chefs about the cooking process was a great time for all of us.

The camel, which was grown in the neighboring desert specifically for this purpose, was also raised for this purpose.

The masala of the Emirati people.

It was a pleasant surprise that everything fit within.

When it was finished, the camel’s form had vanished, and all that was left were the massive bones and a pile of flesh to scrape out of the carcass.

It was served on a bed of stuff that looked a lot like Al Machboos rice.

You couldn’t discern the outline of the camel after it had been covered with gold plating for a long time.

One of the most difficult to come by delicacies in Dubai!

Everyone in the restaurant participated in bringing the dish outdoors, with 5 individuals carrying the plate at a time.

Taking the camel for a walk outside Before we took our first mouthful of camel flesh, Peyman instructed me on how to properly consume it in the traditional manner.

He demonstrated how to scoop the rice with your hand, then lay the meat on top of the rice in your palm and crush it together into a lump, which you then shove into your mouth with your index and middle fingers.

Peyman picked out a lovely item for me!

The meat was really tender and greasy.

This was possibly the most flavorful and fragrant item I’ve ever eaten in my whole life.

It was undoubtedly quite filling, with one bite providing enough energy for the whole evening, but it is a must-try nonetheless.

Getting to the bottom of the hump The entire evening proceeded in the same manner as before.

Then it was the turn of the hosts to eat.

Even they were unable to complete it.

It was a genuinely incredible experience to eat an entire camel in Dubai, and we donated it to a charitable organization.

Ask Ali: How to buy the best abayas and camel meat

Greetings, Ali: I’m looking to purchase an abaya, but there are so many different styles to choose from. What is the best way to determine what is in and what is out of style? DS, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Greetings, DS: It’s not as difficult as it appears at first glance. All you need to do is look around at the abayas that other women are wearing. Take attention of the colors — while black abayas are traditional, colorful abayas are becoming increasingly popular. Examine the cut, the length, the needlework, and any other details.

  1. Additionally, you might look at the websites and social media pages of local abaya brands.
  2. If you choose a basic black abaya made of high-quality cloth, you will always make a wise decision.
  3. If you ask me, this is exactly how a true abaya should always appear to be.
  4. My personal aim is that more members of our younger generation and others who appreciate our culture come to understand that the abaya is all about keeping you safe and protected.
  5. Greetings, Ali: Despite the fact that I had lived in the UAE for 33 years, it was only five years ago that I discovered camel meat and became addicted to it.
  6. And what would be the best sort of camel to buy if you had to choose one?
  7. In our tradition, we prepare a young camel, which we refer to as “huwar,” as a gesture of welcome since it is renowned to have the most delectable form of meat.

However, it is not the same as preparing a few chicken wings for a single person — when there is a celebration, you prepare camel.

The camel may be stuffed with any filling you choose, or it can simply be cooked and then served over a rice dish or wrapped up in bread.

You should be able to find the meat at any camel market, as well as at some butcher shops — if you ask them to place an order, they should be able to accommodate you.

The most famous camel market is in Al Ain, and you can also inquire with slaughterhouses to see if they deal with camels.

If you’re looking for inspiration on how to prepare it, consider paying a visit to the Qasr Al Hosn Festival, which is taking place in Abu Dhabi till February 13 and is the largest cultural event in the city.

You may even get the opportunity to sample some of the local cuisine, which includes camel meat.
