Atlantis Located at the tip of the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, The Palm is a premium hotel resort with a spa and golf course. It was the first resort to be built on the island, and it is designed after the story of Atlantis, but it also incorporates elements of Arabian culture. The resort, which was a joint venture between Kerzner International Holdings Limited and Istithmar World, officially opened its doors on September 24, 2008.

Hotel

The East and West Towers of the 1,548-room nautical-themed resort are connected by the Royal Bridge Suite, which serves as a connection between the two wings of the resort’s lodging. Additionally, the Aquaventure water park and the Lost Chambers Aquarium, which is home to over 65,000 aquatic species, are located on site.

Underwater rooms

Located in Atlantis The Palm, the Poseidon and Neptune Underwater Suites are two of just a handful of underwater hotel rooms in the world, and they often appear on lists of the world’s most unusual accommodations. The top, entry floor, which is 165 square meters/1776 square feet in total, is at ground level, while the master bedroom and en-suite bathroom are submerged. The entire structure measures 165 square meters/1776 square feet. The Ambassador Lagoon, which is home to a variety of unique aquatic species, can be seen from the nearly floor-to-ceiling windows in both the bedroom and bathroom.

Development

Atlantis The Palm, a joint venture between Kerzner International Holdings Limited and Istithmar World, officially opened its doors on September 24, 2008. It was announced in April 2012 that Istithmar World had bought Kerzner’s 50% ownership in the property for a total of US$250 million. Kerzner International Resorts is still in charge of the property’s administration. Wimberly, Allison, Tong and Goo (WATG) was the architectural company responsible for the design, which is an international firm that specializes in luxury hotels.

The 23-story hotel and water park was designed and built by Laing O’Rourke, which was also in charge of the building phase.

Official launch

Construction of the hotel, which was completed by Laing O’Rourkeit, was completed and the hotel formally opened its doors on September 24, 2008. As part of the celebration, a light display with moving pictures was projected onto the hotel’s façade. There were 100,000 fireworks fired, which was almost seven times the quantity used at the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and they lasted for 15 minutes. The spectacular display of fireworks along the whole 5 km (3.1 mi) stretch of The Palm illuminated the entire island, including Atlantis, The Palm, and the surrounding area.

Even though Fireworks by Grucci says the performance has established a new world record, the records curatorGuinness World Records has not yet announced the display’s official status as a world record.

The inaugural celebration is said to have cost a total of £15 million, with Kylie Minogue receiving £2 million for a 60-minute performance for the hotel’s 2,000 attendees.

Dolphin controversy

During the month of October 2007, the hotel received a cargo of 28 bottlenose dolphins from the Solomon Islands, which would be utilized as part of the hotel’s Dolphin Bay aquarium exhibit. Many environmental organizations were outraged by the decision, particularly given the fact that the Solomon Islands government had previously prohibited the export of dolphins from the country (after a similar controversial shipment toMexico). Although the dolphins are being educated to interact with tourists, hotel administrators have stated that they would not feature in any type of show or circus-like performance, despite their training.

Solomon Islands Marine Mammal Education Centre and Exporters Limited, a corporation registered in the Solomon Islands, was responsible for negotiating the agreement with the governments of the United Arab Emirates and Solomon Islands (who had overturned the earlier ban in court).

  • The water park was the location of a challenge on the sixth leg of The Amazing Race 15. In order to get down the resort’s Leap of Faith water slide, the 14 team members had to slide down sections of 60 metres (20 metres) and 30 metres (9 metres), respectively, down an 84° slope and via an underground tunnel beneath the aquarium’s shark lagoon. Following the retrieval of the clue from the bottom of the exit pool, teams were required to explore the water park for Dolphin Bay Beach, which was located near a lagoon and served as the sixth Pit Stop of the season. Nonetheless, only 13 team members made it down the slide, due to Mika’s fear of heights and water, which caused her and Canaan to be removed early in the game. On the eighth leg of The Amazing Race 28, the teams returned to the water park for another visit. For the Roadblock, teams had to work together to solve a task in an aquarium setting. Following that, they were required to slide down the Poseidon’s Revenge water slide as a miscellaneous task

January in the next year, 2022 With a great deal of laughter and screaming, Atlantis Aquaventure is a great spot to visit!

“Leap of Faith” and “Blackout” are two roller coaster rides that are not for the faint of heart.

The day may become quite exhausting very fast, especially if you have to climb 5 storeys numerous times to complete some rides or, in the majority of situations, repeat rides.

In addition, the park caters to families with little children, since there are particular rides and spaces dedicated for tiny children.

The World’s Tallest Tower Is Estimated to Cost $1 Billion

Following months of speculation about the possibility of developing the world’s tallest building in Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the country’s prime minister, recently officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Tower at Dubai Creek Harbor, which will be the world’s tallest structure. The waterfront construction, which being built in partnership by Emaar Properties and Dubai Holding, is planned to exceed previous world’s highest structures such as theTokyo Skytree (2,080 feet) and the Burj Khalifa (2,722 feet) to become the world’s tallest skyscraper (3,045 feet).

It will be similar in design to the Burj Khalifa in that it will contain a mix of luxury residences (such as Dubai Creek Harbour, which will include Dubai Canal Residences, Creekside 18, Harbour Views and Creek Horizon in The Island District) as well as commercial spaces geared toward travelers and business executives.

A press release states that Dubai Creek Harbour will be “the smart hub of the next generation,” with some of the most exciting features including the latest design and engineering innovations as well as artificial intelligence and environmental sustainability elements that will contribute to a “advanced digital lifestyle.” Because there are no other constructions like this in the world, one of the most difficult issues for Emaar Properties will be ensuring the structural integrity of the building.

As a result, the team conducted groundbreaking wind-engineering testing and seismic assessments to ensure that the structure would remain stable under a variety of scenarios.

Tarik Rakha, Assistant Professor in the School of Architecture at Syracuse University, warns that when evaluating projects that make so many lofty claims, it is important to exercise care.

In contrast to the building of Ground Zero, which was explicitly characterized by Daniel Libeskind to Arch Daily as the ” ‘healing of New York,’ a “place of recollection,’ and “a location to witness the resiliency of America,'” the motivation for the construction of The Tower in Dubai is less evident.

“Is there anything greater for Dubai than keeping its distinction as the world’s highest tower?” the expert inquired.

While the economic repercussions of these developments should be a source of worry, there are certain advantages to the tower, as well as some disadvantages.

“It is likely that the use of materiality, structural patterns, and attention to scale will spark intriguing discussions—whether favorable or critical—about a building that will be known as the world’s tallest,” Rakha stated.

Atlantis, The Palm

From the moment we scheduled our vacation to Dubai, I knew without a doubt that we would be visiting the Aquaventure Waterpark at the Atlantis hotel on The Palm. Ever since I first heard that Atlantis will be opening on The Palm, I’ve been daydreaming about it. After seeing Mary-Kate and Ashley’s filmHoliday in the Sun, which was set in the Atlantis hotel in the Bahamas, I begged my parents to take us there every year so that I could see it for myself. They agreed, and we went every year. After all, it never occurred, but when I heard that a new Atlantis resort was building on the famed Palm island in Dubai, I got my hopes up that we would be able to visit there instead and realize my boyhood dreams?

Nothing like that ever happened!

I’m finally able to attend the Aquaventure Waterpark at Atlantis!

Aquaventure Waterpark

Aquaventure is without a doubt the largest waterpark in the Middle East, and there’s no denying how massive it is! Taking the lazy riverrapids around the perimeter of the park, which contains the two towers where all of the attractions are located, takes around 20 minutes or so to complete a full circuit takes about 20 minutes. The waterpark itself has its own own man-made beach, so there’s plenty to keep you occupied throughout the day and into the evening. We had anticipated being a little bored, but we ended up not having enough time to ride every ride before the park closed in the end!

We went the week before half-term vacations in the United Kingdom, and while it was busy, it wasn’t quite as crowded as we had anticipated.

Not only that, but the longest we had to wait for a ride was approximately 20 minutes, which wasn’t too awful (and they were all under cover from the sun too).

With a double ring, you can also go down in pairs, which is wonderful if you’re a bit afraid of rides like I am haha!

We used the lazy river as our mode of transportation around the park all day because the floor becomes so hot throughout the day that it spared us from having to walk around the entire park.

The Rides

At theTower of Poseidon, you can find the larger group rides, including Aquaconda, which was my favorite (you go through pitch black tunnels before being plummeted out into a fibreglass tube, see a video here), and Zoomerango, which was absolutely terrifying (you are dropped almost vertically before being launched straight up a huge wall and back down, see a video here)! I wish we had captured it on tape because Shane claims he has never heard me scream like that in the eight years or so that we have been married.

Additionally, there is thePoseidon’s Revenge waterslide, where you stand in a capsule and the floor collapses beneath you (which I did not experience), as well as theSlitherine, a dual waterslide (without rings) where you can race a friend to the bottom (which we did not experience due to time constraints).

Aside from that, there’s Shark Attack, a quiet ride through dark tunnels that leads to a massive tank full with sharks, as well as Stinger, The Falls, The Plunge, and The Surge, which are all ring rides that take place on various levels of the tower.

Tips for Visiting The Waterpark

Make sure to arrive early and pre-purchase your tickets– We arrived to the park at approximately 10.30am (it opens at 10am), and the park was already crowded, with huge queues for purchasing tickets! Because hotel guests are entitled to free admission to the park, you can be sure that they will be among the first to arrive. A large amount of sitting is available towards the far end of the park, which appears to be overlooked by everyone (including us) while hunting for loungers. Our modest locker, which was large enough to accommodate two bags full of clothes, was leased between the two of us.

At the entrance as well as at the Tower of Poseidon (where it was a lot calmer) there are lockers to store your belongings.

It is not permitted to bring selfie sticks on the rides, although it is OK to bring go-pros and cell phones (with a waterproof lanyard).

The Lost Chambers Aquarium

When we visited Aquaventure Waterpark and The Lost Chambers Aquarium, we purchased a combined ticket that gave us access to both attractions. When the waterpark closed, we lingered until the last person left and then went to the aquarium. To be honest, I wouldn’t bother purchasing the combination ticket because we were through in less than 10 minutes. I thought the tanks were far too small for the quantity of fish that were kept in them, and I wasn’t a fan of the overall experience. Those planning a visit to the Aquaventure Waterpark should be aware that it is open from 10 a.m.

Adults must pay 260AED (£55) to enter, while children under 1.2m must pay 215AED (£45).

We had a fantastic day, and it was wonderful to be able to spend the day resting and having fun in the water after being wilted by the heat all week!

I’ll have a short hotel review up soon for anybody searching for a place to stay, and I’ll hopefully have a mini guide to visiting Dubai up soon as well, but in the meantime, you can check out all of my other articles from Dubai right here on the blog! Follow

Atlantis, The Palm

Located at the tip of the man-made Palm Island’s crescent, Atlantis, The Palm is a five-star ocean-themed resort hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The structure was the first structure to be constructed on the island, and it is based on the tale of Atlantis as represented in the works of Plato. The main edifice is comprised of two centraltowers, known as the East and West towers, which are connected by the RoyalBridgeSuite. The 46-hectare resort has 1,539 rooms, 23 restaurants, luxury boutiques, a 17-hectare nautical-themed waterpark, and tropical gardens with more than 250,000 plants and trees.

  • This waterpark’s most famous attraction is the Leap of Faith slide, which plunges 60 feet at an 86-degree angle from the top of an exact replica Mayan temple.
  • Among the resort’s attractions is one of the world’s largest open-air marine ecosystems, which has over 65,000 marine species in lagoons and other exhibits.
  • and Istithmar, Atlantis opened its doors in September 2008 as the world’s first underwater resort.
  • In April 2012, Istithmar purchased Kerzner’s 50 percent ownership in the property for a total of US$ 250 million dollars.
  • Atlantisha has evolved into a world-renowned tourist destination and iconic emblem of Dubai’s position on the international scene.
  • Interior and outside of the 23-story hotel are decorated with semi-precious stones, exquisite fossilised shells, and ‘fish’ stones, all of which are inspired by ancient Arabian architecture.
  • The hotel lobby’s 19-meter-high arched ceilings are embellished with eight paintings created by Spanish artist Albino Gonzalez.
  • As part of this effort, they created a groundbreaking facility for preassembling modular bathroom “pods” in a regulated industrial setting.
  • The logistical operation required to support the construction of the complicated design caused difficulties.

At its peak, the company employed 10,000 people who worked a total of 2 million hours every month. A full two months ahead of plan, it was completed.

Aquaventure Waterpark: Every water lover’s paradise!

On May 21, 2020, Shrinivas published an article. It is the largest waterpark in the world, featuring a variety of pools, slides, and attractions to suit everyone’s tastes. On the lovely island of Palm Jumeirah, next to the luxuriousAtlantis The PalmResort, it is located. It is possible to visit the park on a day trip from Dubai, and spending time in this waterpark is a wonderful experience. Contrary to its theme, the words “aqua,” the lake, and “adventure” are all rolled into a single package.

Overview

The Poseidon Tower and the Neptune Tower serve as the starting points for the adventure waterpark’s first two major towers. Guests will be authorized to enter the towers, which must be at least 1.2 meters in height to be given entry. Poseidon is the lord of the sea according to Greek mythology. The Tower of Poseidon is home to several exciting rides. Image courtesy of Google Images

Aquaconda

This is, without a doubt, the greatest water slide in the whole country. The Aquaconda transports its passengers via a dark, winding tube that resembles a massive serpent under the water. It then drops them into the world’s biggest tube of fiberglass, which is the world’s largest tube of fiberglass.

Poseidon’s Revenge

It is not recommended for the faint of heart. Riders are invited to enter and wait for a capsule to be delivered. The floor begins to slip without warning from below, and they plummet at speeds of around 60 kilometers per hour!

Slitherine

This is the first authentic “waterslide within a water slide” of its kind in the world. Riders may compete to see who can complete the course’s various twists and turns first. They must, however, proceed with caution, since one false move might lead them straight into the Aquaconda’s stomach!

Zoomerango

This is not your typical tobogganing experience. It includes vertical dives as well as sudden plummets, all of which create a sensation of weightlessness. The Zoomerango is the ideal voyage for people who wish to defy gravity and go to the top of the world. These high-octane thrill coasters are part of the Tower of Neptune experience. Shark Attack

This is one adventure that guests will never forget: gliding down an inner tunnel to the heart of Neptune’s Tower. Moments later, they find themselves in an underwater lagoon teeming with sharks of all shapes and sizes!

The Leap of Faith

It is true to its name that attempting this climb up the 9-story building demands a huge amount of courage and determination. If you are traveling at high speeds, it entails a near-vertical plunge into an acrylic tube before rushing through it. Several cownose rays and sharks may be found swimming around this tunnel in the water.

Water Coasters

Using water jets to transport riders up, down, and then through a network of dark tunnels, this is an exhilarating adventure. At the conclusion of the journey, there is a peaceful river.

Splashers

Meanwhile, children who do not satisfy the 1.2-meter height limit for the Poseidon and Neptune Towers can travel up to Splashers, which is located on the upper level.

The pools, fountains, and mini-waterslides on this property are ideal for entertaining young children.

Other things to do

A variety of kiosks are located around the Aquaventure Waterpark, selling anything from beach clothes to games, beach needs to souvenirs, and more. Smoothies, fresh fruits, ice cream, popcorn, and sorbets are all available at the kiosks, as well. Sandwiches, hot dogs, and shawarma are available at Waves or Splashers, while cold beverages and shakes are available in Lagoons. Snappers provides a broad variety of baked goods, including cakes, tea, coffee, pastries, and frozen foods. Shark Bites serves traditional Arabic fare as well as quick-service options for both indoor and outdoor dining options.

Additional info

Atlantis The Palm City, which serves as the entrance to the Aquaventure Waterpark, is exclusively for guests staying at the hotel. Children who wish to enter the park must be at least twelve years old or be accompanied by an adult at all times. In addition, the minimum of 1.2 meters in height is severely enforced on some rides, such as the ferris wheel. When it comes to opening hours, the Aquaventure Waterpark is open from 10:00 a.m. to sunset, depending on the season. Guests may access the park through the Avenues and park for free at Nasimi Beach, which is located adjacent to the park.

Climbing the Poseidon Tower and the Neptune Tower is not authorized for anybody who is shorter than 4 feet in height.

Overweight persons and pregnant women are also at risk.

You are not permitted to carry extension goods, such as selfie sticks, notepads, smartphones, and other accessories, on Aquaventure drives.

Best time to visit Dubai

The best time to visit the United Arab Emirates will most likely be during the winter months of the year when the weather is cooler. The temperature in the Middle East is often hot and humid. Between October and February is the best time to visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Fortunately, the weather is mild at this time of year, making it possible to wear a good jacket or a sweater.
