Collin Morikawa’s ridiculous run continues with European Tour double

Why Morikawa’s Race to Dubai Win is Confirmation That Change Is Needed
With birdies on five of his final seven holes, Collin Morikawa finished with an impressive 66 to win the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai for the second time in as many years in 2021. It was a three-point victory against the incumbent champion, Matt Fitzpatrick, and the Swedish rider Alexander Bjork. Rory Mcilroy had been in contention all week, but a late stumbling block on Sunday dropped him to sixth place, five shots behind the leader, and he ripped his shirt in rage during the round. This triumph ensured Morikawa the season-long Race to Dubai championship, making him the first American to achieve this feat.

Only Justin Rose (2007) and Ernie Els (2004) appeared in less than ten tournaments between 2000 and 2010.
The fact that this is happening is problematic for the European Tour in several ways.
Other Tour members may come to regard it as a stepping stone to the PGA Tour as a consequence, resulting in a ‘weaker’ field on the European Tour week in and week out as a result of this acceptance.
Jon Rahm withdrew from the DP World Tour Championship despite being in third place in the Race to Dubai rankings at the time of his withdrawal.

Collin Morikawa closes with 66, makes history on European Tour at DP World Tour Championship

He became the first person ever to win both the DP World Tour Championship and the Race to Dubai championship. On Sunday, Morikawa opened the round with six straight pars after starting the final day three strokes behind Rory McIlroy. Morikawa finished the day three shots behind Rory McIlroy. Morikawa made his first birdie of the day on the seventh hole.
He was the only player to break 70 in the tournament.
“It’s an honor, truly, to be the first American to achieve it on the European Tour, to put my name beside so many Hall of Famers, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” he said.
On the 15th hole, he missed his approach shot by eight feet and had to settle for par.
On the 17th hole, he hit a shot that was within 10 feet of the hole.
The attitude was ‘yes, let’s go play throughout the world,’ but we had no idea what cards would be dealt,” he explained.
Billy Horschel finished second in the Race, and Jon Rahm, who did not compete in the season-ending event, finished third.
While McIlroy recorded a 2-over 74, an unusual incident occurred after the round when he was seen in the clubhouse staring at his phone with his shirt seeming to be torn apart.
And with the start of a new season comes the introduction of a new moniker for the tour.
In recognition of the title sponsorship, the total prize money will surpass $200 million for the first time in tournament history.
