Academic year

Half Terms
Half terms in Terms 1 and 2 have been reintroduced in calendars as a result of negotiations between schools and the KHDA to extend the academic year beyond the dates set forth in the “new calendar.” The first rule of the KHDA’s new standards said that all private schools in Dubai must adhere to the dates provided; however, there appears to have been some wiggle space when it comes to the conclusion of the school year.

The staff development week, which was formerly held during the summer term and allowed for a half term earlier in the year, has been shifted to the summer term to accommodate more students. During the week, children will be attending school. During the summer semester, there is no half-term break to take advantage of. It was decided by the KHDA to alter the academic calendar for the 2020/21 academic year in order to “assure that all private schools in Dubai operate on a more consistent school year.” The updated calendar covers a minimum of 182 school days and “satisfies the academic and test requirements of each curriculum,” according to the Department of Education.
- There are certain dates that private schools in Dubai must adhere to that are defined in the academic calendar. It is required that the academic year have a minimum of 182 school days. Unless otherwise provided in the calendar, the academic year shall not finish before the given date. No changes may be made to the start dates of the Spring and Winter holidays. In addition, schools have the option to take five days off throughout the academic year – which can be dispersed or combined throughout the year – or to prolong Spring break. These five days, on the other hand, cannot be utilized to prolong either the Winter or Summer holidays. The previous academic year, schools were allowed to set aside eight days to be used for training or CPD (continuous professional development) (student-free days). This option is no longer accessible
- Nonetheless, The government of the United Arab Emirates will publish the specific dates of public holidays in the coming weeks. These holidays can be conveyed to parents on a provisional basis, but they must not be confirmed until they have been formally announced by the United Arab Emirates government. In the calendar that is presented for approval, schools should not include any public holidays. Only once their academic calendar has been authorized by the KHDA may schools communicate it with the rest of their community. All schools are expected to adhere to these policies and procedures. Three rules to know before school resumes in Dubai on January 3

Can schools extend hours during the week?

New UAE school calendar announced; here are the holidays
Published: Tuesday, September 15, 2020, 1:48 p.m. Until 2022-2023, the government of the United Arab Emirates has published the school schedule for the following three years. The Ministerial Development Council, presided over by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Minister of Presidential Affairs, authorized the school calendars for public and private schools for the academic years 2020-21, 2021-22, and 2022-23. In a statement posted on Twitter, the UAE government stated that “the decision detailed the beginning and end of the school year, the number of school days, and the dates of winter and spring holidays for both public and private schools in the UAE.” The academic year 2020-2021 began on August 30, and the school year 2021-2022 will begin on August 29, 2021, with the first day of classes on August 30, 2020.
The beginning of the school year 2022-2023 will be on August 28th.
Each of the school years 2020-21 and 2022-23 will have a total of 188 school days, while the school year 2021-2022 will have 186 school days.
