Airports Council International’s World Aircraft Traffic Report 2018, published in September 2019, reveals that the Dubai International Airport (DXB) is the world’s third busiest airport in terms of total passenger numbers, behind only Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Hong Kong International Airport (HKG).
The Dubai International Airport handled 89.1 million passengers last year. Airports other than Atlanta International Airport (ATL) in the United States and Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) in China are the busiest on the continent.

Dubai targets over 5.5 mln overseas tourists this year
DUBAI, May 18 (Reuters) – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). For the first time in its history, Dubai plans to welcome more than 5.5 million international visitors this year, with the expectation that new markets would assist to make up for the loss of tourists from major countries where access is prohibited. Dubai had 5.5 million international visitors last year, despite the fact that the tourist industry was hit hard by the coronavirus outbreak.
Visitors from India, historically Dubai’s most important source market, have been barred from entering the United Arab Emirates as a result of the newest outbreak of the disease in the South Asian country.

The UK, which was Dubai’s third largest source market in 2019, has blocked direct flights and required visitors from the UAE to check in at a hotel quarantine before leaving the country. Dubai welcomes 4.88 million tourists between Jan-Oct 2021
According to the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), the emirate received 4.88 million tourists between January and October 2021, with overseas visitors accounting for more than one million of those trips during the month of October alone. 9.4 million hotel nights were booked over the first 10 months of the year, as opposed to seven million room nights sold during the same time last year, according to the National Hotel and Motel Association. Additionally, the increasing popularity of “staycations” in the domestic market had a role in this.

Dubai announces record tourism arrivals in 2019

The number of overseas visitors increased by 5.1 percent last year, but the country is still far short of its 2020 objective of 20 million visitors.
“While the global economy remains in a state of flux, we can clearly see an exciting opportunity to further grow Dubai’s dominance in the tourism industry in 2020,” he added.
1.6 million Saudi tourists visited the city-state, which is one of seven sheikhdoms that make up the United Arab Emirates, in the years that followed.
Visits from Oman have climbed by 24 percent to more than one million, placing the neighboring nation in fourth place in terms of visitor numbers.

Dubai has the most diverse economy in the area and expects record expenditure this year, with its 2020 budget climbing 17 percent to $18.1 million as the government attempts to revive the country’s sluggish economic growth.
However, it predicts a $700 million loss for the fourth year in a row, which is the most on record.
As the only Gulf state not reliant on hydrocarbon earnings, Dubai expects to generate roughly 94 percent of its revenue from non-oil sources in the next years.
