Written on June 13, 2021 Family reunion in May 2021 I’ve never been more in love with City Walk or Dubai than I was on this particular day, when I came here with my husband and children for iftar.

However, on a special occasion, our family visited Citywalk, which turned out to be the finest decision I ever made.

As traditional Asian cuisine is something we enjoy, we opted to eat iftar at Farzi Cafe.

It had a delectable taste, outstanding service, an exceptional eating experience, and correct SOPS were provided thereafter.

My young one was mesmerized by the “actual smoke” that emanated from the plate and was completely taken aback!

There will be no waste from bringing too much food.

I really enjoyed this section of the citywalk, as well as the collaboration of Mr Anish, the manager of Farzi Cafe, who was really kind.

My taste senses were tantalized by their special Ramadan menu, which included harai bharei kababs that were so soft and packed with so many delicious flavors that the first bite was impossible to resist.

That being said, the paneer tikka lababdaar was hands down the finest vegetarian dish I’ve ever had!

In the coastal neighborhood of Jumeirah, City Walk is a three-phase mixed-use redevelopment project. The project, which covers an area of more than 900,000 square metres, is an urban infill project on what was previously undeveloped territory in the Downtown Dubai region and under the shadow of the Burj Khalifa tower. We designed a modern, open-air attraction that responds to the surrounding streets and buildings by using precise architecture, a shared visual language, and culturally relevant design elements. The unusual Green Planetcomplex is located just a few minutes’ walk from the Dubai City Walk and is a must-see attraction in the area. Edwards Deming: “Without facts, you’re simply another guy with an opinion.” A significant source of insights in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) area remains to be untapped big data, particularly location data. This is especially true for businesses that may not have a comprehensive understanding of their venue traffic or visitors, or who may rely on restricted methodologies such as sample surveys that give just a limited glimpse of a continuously changing client base and marketplace.

The Venue

It is necessary to geo-fence the area where City Walk will be conducted in order to begin tracking mobile device movements in and out of the designated region. Based on repeated observations in the late evenings and early mornings from the same area, the City Walkvisitor home locations may be modeled using the UAE mobile user data set from IQ data, which contains over 4 million smartphone devices.

The Heatmap displays a relative clustering and density comparison of visitor home locations as a suggestive but powerful visual representation that may be used to guide further investigation.

The Findings

As a result, we have divided the heatmaps into two different parts of Dubai where we have noticed the largest density of guest home locations: the northern and southern regions of Dubai.

1. City Walk and surrounding neighborhoods, including Jumeirah, Satwa, and Downtown
2. Neighborhoods south of City Walk, including The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Lake Towers, and Barsha districts
3. And neighborhoods north of City Walk, including The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Lake Towers, and Barsha districts

City WalkSurrounding Neighborhoods

As was predicted, City Walk and its surrounding neighborhoods had the greatest density of City Walkvisitor clustering across the whole city of Dubai, with the highest density of City Walkvisitor clustering in the entire city of Dubai. These residential districts serve as the primary catchment region for visitors, including City Walk, which is a mixed-use real estate center that has a significant number of residential units, exposing a high density of population. Tourists who come to City Walk are mostly drawn to the Jumeirah neighborhoods, as well as the Al Satwa, Al Wasl, Al Bada’a, and Sheikh Zayed Road high-rise skyscrapers in the surrounding region.

CITY WALKrelative visitor concentration density lowers fairly noticeably in regions immediately south of the Dubai Creek, including Al Safa, Umm Suqeim, and Umm Al Sheif (all of which are located south of the Dubai Creek).

South Dubai Neighborhoods

The first thing to notice is that there are obviously separated groups of City Walkvisitors who live more off to the south of the venue than the rest of the population. The highest density may be found in the tallest residential skyscrapers in Dubai Marina, as well as in residential towers in the near area of the Mall of the Emirates in Al Barsha 1. This density of clustering is significantly higher than that of most areas that are located closer to, but south of, City Walk. The rest of Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Beach Residences, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Barsha Heights and the trunk of the Palm Jumeirah, notably the Shoreline Apartments, have a considerable density of visitors clustered around them, as does the rest of Dubai Marina.

The Conclusion

City Walkis effectively generating traffic from Dubai residents from a wide range of neighborhoods around the Emirate, as well as from farther away. There are some inhabitants of rival lifestyle destinations such as Jumeirah Beach Residences and Dubai Marina who make the trip to City Walk despite the fact that they have equivalent lifestyle venues just outside their front door. It is worth mentioning that the home locations of City Walkvisitors were found to be more constant farther north in neighborhoods such as Bur Dubai, Karama, and Deira, particularly in the vicinity of Dubai Creek, compared to the rest of the city.

Performing a more in-depth analysis that compares, overlaps, and benchmarks other lifestyle destinations to City Walk would be a logical next step.

Despite the insights gained, heatmaps such as those used in this case study should be seen as a beginning point for using location data rather than as a full picture of the situation.

Because of the gradual opening of the City Walk districts over the course of the development’s five-year construction period, the public began referring to different areas of the development by their respective construction phase names. There were two parts to the brief for this project: first, to bring Meraas’ new destination-based brand identity to life within City Walk, and second, to implement a wayfinding strategy across the entire development in order to create a single, unified visitor experience across the entire development, strengthening the sense of place for residents, but also with the goal of making City Walk the leading “city-within-a-city” destination in Dubai.

An improved visitor experience

We immersed ourselves in the surroundings and conducted stakeholder workshops to identify the most pressing challenges and pain points that residents, visitors, and business owners were experiencing. Even though the primary design goal for the client was to integrate the urban lifestyle with the new brand color, font, and iconography, we quickly learned that navigation of the underground parking lots was the most important consideration for customers. We developed a branded navigation sign family and implemented a color-coded design solution that was consistent with the development’s particular character as well as the new Meraas brand identity.

Previously low-traffic regions have experienced a large rise, and complaints from visitors and tenants have dropped dramatically, as a result of these changes.

With all of these services conveniently located within walking distance of its inhabitants, City Walk has also emerged as a model for a new urban lifestyle neighborhood.
