Ski Dubai: Hitting the Slopes in the Desert
The first time I heard about Ski Dubai, shortly after it opened in 2005, I was completely fascinated. How could someone construct an indoor snow skiing resort in the middle of the Sahara Desert? News stories and television programs on the resort’s construction that I’ve seen over the years have left a lasting impression on me. Recent travel opportunities presented themselves for me, including a trip to Qatar for an educational conference. I knew that a side trip to Dubai would be a part of that experience, and I knew that visiting Ski Dubai would be a big reason for making that trip.
- On the day I went skiing with my family, we spent the day cooling off at the Aquaventure Water Park at the Atlantis Palm Hotel, which was scorching hot at 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius).
- This particular ski resort is actually located within The Mall of The Emirates.
- Although the commercials offer a variety of slopes ranging from novice to black diamond, I discovered that the majority of the trails were for beginners, with one slope having an intermediate pitch and one slope having a difficult pitch.

I ski in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania on a daily basis, and I also travel to Vermont and Upstate New York for skiing on occasion.

Trees and powder:
It is true that they have a few artificial fir trees, but not nearly enough to ski around in and there is no snow.
Out of Bounds Areas:
Snow is absent from out of limits places, reducing the attractiveness of the remote wilderness areas that many people seek in the Rocky Mountains.
Beginners and Intermediates:
Beginners can find lots of moderately inclined terrain in Dubai, which is ideal for them. Due to the fact that 100 percent of the trails are designated for novices, you will not be at risk of falling victim to a deadly double black diamond. Oh well, that’s a bummer. They claim to have completed a single black diamond run (upper skier right). If you are pushed down the lift line, you are more likely to tumble. Meydan, a developer located in the city, is the mastermind behind the massive undertaking. The ski slope will be a part of a 5-million-square-metre development that will house 78,300 people in total. At the Mall of the Emirates, Dubai has already set a Guinness World Record for the world’s largest indoor ski slope, which is the longest in the world. The Ski Slope Will Be Three Times Longer Than Ski Dubai
The new indoor slope will be 1.2 kilometers long, about three times as long as Dubai’s present indoor slope and nearly twice as long as the current world record holder in Germany, according to the company. It is expected that the project will cost $6.8 billion. The world-record-breaking ski slope at Meydan will be moored within a 711-meter-tall tower. Besides being home to the world’s largest slop, the tower will also be home to an indoor sports facility measuring 25,000 square metres, a 5.3-kilometer bicycle and jogging trail, a nine-kilometer boardwalk, the largest dancing fountains in the world, and a civic plaza that can accommodate up to 60,000 people.

Plans to construct a 1.2-kilometer slope in the city of Dubai were revealed earlier this month by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai.

Of course, when compared to the Alps, Ski Dubai’s’mountain’ is a mere ant hill, but it is tough enough for beginners, enjoyable for intermediate skiers, and a novelty for more skilled skiers.

Sunday through Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.; Thursday: 10:00 a.m. to midnight; Friday: 9:00 a.m. to midnight; and Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. It is possible that schedule disruptions will occur from time to time; therefore, check the website to ensure that the store will be open when it says it will.
Cost of Admission
It costs AED 255 per adult and AED 255 per kid to rent a ski pass for two hours for experienced skiers. A full-day slope pass (valid for the entire day with numerous admissions) is available for purchase. There are a variety of other packages available that include lessons.

What to Bring with You
Bringing your own hat and gloves to the Mall of the Emirates is an option if you don’t want to spend the money on them at the mall. We also recommend that you bring a pair of sturdy, calf-level socks with you (such as hiking socks). We were both wearing low-cut socks, and the ski boots scratched raw spots on our calves as a result of the friction. A couple of delighted skiers!
