How to Visit Jumeirah Mosque in Dubai, United Arab Emirates
The date is July 22, 2021. Perhaps one of the most stunning parts of Dubai is its numerous mosques, which are scattered around the city. Even the most mundane of streets are adorned with intricate Islamic architecture and domed domes. You’ll discover that, if you’re not a Muslim, the majority of mosques in Dubai can only be appreciated from the outside. The Jumeirah Mosque, on the other hand, is one of the exceptions. As a history and culture buff who also happens to be a sucker for fine detail, I’ve always been drawn to Islamic art and architecture, which isn’t surprising considering my background.
The outside of the Jumeirah Mosque is stunning, and it is well worth a visit even if you only see it from the outside.
Immediately following your visit to the Jumeirah Mosque, take a short stroll over to the Imam Hussein Mosque to get a feel for Iranian architecture.
Before my trip, I went on a search for mosques in Dubai, and I came across more paradoxes than I have at virtually any other destination I’ve sought to see while traveling across the world.
- The Jumeirah Mosque is smaller than the Grand Mosque and is beige in hue rather than white.
- Two of Dubai’s largest mosques are available to the public, however only one of them is officially open to the public.
- While in Dubai, paying a visit to the Jumeirah Mosque is an excellent opportunity to become acquainted with Emirati culture and religion.
- All inquiries – no matter how sensitive – are welcomed and addressed at SMCCU under the slogan “Open Doors, Open Minds,” according to the institution’s website.
Having recently returned from a trip to Dubai, I’ve sifted through some of the conflicting information about visiting the Jumeirah Mosque, and I’m here to share my findings with you.
JUMEIRAH MOSQUE LOCATION
The Jumeirah Mosque is available to Muslim tourists from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is necessary to check in at the tourist entry and visit during one of the guided tour periods if you are not a Muslim. Tours are available at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the exception of Friday. When the mosque is not open for tours, it is closed to the general public for prayer.
HOW TO GET TO JUMEIRAH MOSQUE
Unless you already have a rental vehicle or want to travel in a limousine, taking a taxi to the Jumeirah Mosque is the best option for getting there. My taxi trip from my hotel in Business Bay, The Oberoi, took around 15 minutes and cost approximately $5 USD. Generally speaking, taxis in Dubai are far less expensive than in other large cities, such as New York or Paris. The pricing was often 25-35 percent less expensive than the amount I would have paid for the same distance in a cab if I were in New York.
- In fact, nothing could be farther from the truth.
- What you should be on the lookout for are the white Lexus automobiles, which do not have meters and charge 3-4 times the rate of an RTA taxi and nearly twice the rate of an Uber.
- The safety of myself and other women when traveling alone is usually one of my primary worries when visiting a new place.
- When comparing taxis in Dubai to cabs in other cities, I was pleased by how cautiously several of my drivers drove.
- For female lone travelers who are still hesitant to take a taxi in Dubai, keep a look out for the pink lady cabs, which are painted in bright pink.
CAREEM
Careem is a ride-hailing application that is largely focused on the Middle East and North Africa. It’s actually a subsidiary of the Uber corporation. For example, Careem has a collaboration with Dubai’s RTA, which administers the city’s taxi and public transportation systems, to allow for e-hailing cabs in addition to its limousine services, which are similar to Uber’s in terms of pricing and availability. Careem’s taxi service is somewhat more expensive than hailing a cab on the street since you must pay a booking charge in addition to the fare.
Careem undoubtedly makes hailing a cab in Dubai more convenient, however in my experience, taxis in Dubai are readily accessible and easy to locate throughout the city.
After my hotel arranged for a cab so that I could travel to the Jumeirah Mosque, I had no trouble locating one to take me home, even on a side street.
UBER
When it comes to operating in Dubai, Uber is not the same as it is in the United States. In contrast to Uber cars in the United States, all Uber cars in Dubai are limousines, which means they are higher-end vehicles. Still, it’s a fantastic alternative if you want to be able to follow your travel on an app while still riding in a more comfortable vehicle. Despite the fact that Uber was significantly less expensive than a standard taxi or Uber X in New York for the same distance traveled, I considered it to be a decent deal given the high quality of the vehicle.
RENTAL CAR
Dubai is not a place where you can roam about. Allow me to say it again: Dubai is not a place where you can wander about. Despite the fact that I had heard it over and over before traveling, I didn’t believe it. It is absolutely correct. Los Angeles might be a decent comparison for Dubai’s walkability, but honestly, I think even Los Angeles could be more walkable than Dubai, which is saying something. Therefore, if you’re intending on doing a lot of sightseeing around the city, or traveling to neighboring Emirates or cities such as Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, or Hatta, you may discover that renting a vehicle is just more convenient than taking public transportation.
I saw a lot of parking throughout Dubai in general, but notably in tourist spots that were more popular with visitors.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Getting to the Jumeirah Mosque may be accomplished by using the Number 9 bus, which costs 3 AED (about $0.82 USD) in each way. Although public transit in Dubai is quite affordable, it is dispersed around the city, and you may find yourself walking for more than 15 minutes simply to reach your destination. I’m all for saving money when it’s possible, but given the low cost of a cab in Dubai, as well as the incredibly high temperatures in the city that make walking tough, I can’t help but think that taking a taxi is a little more worthwhile than dealing with the public transportation system.
JUMEIRAH MOSQUE ENTRANCE FEE AND TOUR
If you want to take a guided tour of the mosque (which is required for non-Muslim tourists), the charge is 35 AED (about $9.53 USD). Tours are available at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the exception of Fridays. It is not essential to pre-register, although it is highly suggested; otherwise, registration will open 30 minutes prior to the start of each tour. Be sure to attend at least 30 minutes before the start of the trip to have traditional Emirati Fuala (traditional Emirati light refreshments, such as luqaimat, dates, chebab, and Arabic coffee), which will be served 30 minutes prior to the start of the tour.
WHAT TO WEAR TO VISIT A MOSQUE
The strictness of the dress code in mosques in the United Arab Emirates varies from one to another. While some just demand women to cover their arms and legs, regardless of how they do so, other organizations insist on women wearing an abaya, the traditional Emirati dress. A scarf or other head covering must be used to keep the hair out of the way. According to the Jumeirah Mosque’s website, attendees are advised to dress modestly, and women are obliged to carry a head covering with them to the mosque.
If you’d want to attend the mosque but don’t have the proper attire, don’t be concerned! If your clothes isn’t sufficiently covering, you can borrow a kandoora, the Emirati national dress for males, or an abaya and sheila, the Emirati national dress and headscarf for ladies, from the mosque.
WHAT TO DO NEAR JUMEIRAH MOSQUE
It’s usually wise to attempt to visit neighboring attractions whenever possible because Dubai is a large city with many different neighborhoods! Here are a few locations to visit in the vicinity of the Jumeirah Mosque:
IMAM HUSSEIN MOSQUE
Dubai, United Arab Emirates – JumeirahJumeirah 1 – 226 Al Wasl Rd – JumeirahJumeirah 1 – Dubai, United Arab Emirates The Imam Hussein Mosque, which is only a seven-minute walk from the Jumeirah Mosque, is distinguished by its unique Iranian tile construction. Non-Muslims are permitted to visit this mosque on guided tours during normal tourist hours on weekdays. Tourists can visit from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., seven days a week. Visitors to the Jumeirah Mosque may enjoy excursions that feature traditional Emirati fuala, and those who do not have proper clothes can borrow some from the tour guide.
NIKKI BEACH
The Pearl Jumeirah is located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. After your visit to the Jumeirah Mosque, you might want to soak up some sunshine. Nikki Beach, which is close by, has luxury day beds, a private beach, and a pool. The Jumeirah Mosque (Arabic: ) is a mosque located in Dubai, the Emirate of Dubai, and the United Arab Emirates. Construction on the mosque began in 1976, and it is designed in the classic Fatimid architecture, which originated in Syria and Egypt. Interior

Exterior
The mosque’s exterior is distinguished by an attractive facade that can be viewed from the outside. The name of the mosque was inspired by the tens of thousands of people who came to the mosque on a monthly basis to pray. The pink sandstone and other bits of marble used in the construction of the mosque’s facade are particularly striking. It was constructed with colorful marble stones and Quranic phrases carved with shaped stones, which were used in its construction. The Jumeirah mosque features an engraved dome top with Arabic texts etched in a pattern on the dome of the mosque, which is located in Dubai’s Jumeirah neighborhood.
It is possible to observe the elaborate pattern on the domes from the minarets and throughout the outside of the mosque.
The opposite side of the mosque is located on a bustling road that is lined with palm trees, making it a popular photo location for tourists.
Mosque Rituals and Traditions

In accordance with the policy, “barriers between individuals of various nationalities should be removed, and understanding of the local culture, customs, and religion of the United Arab Emirates should be raised.” Religious events and activities are held in the mosque every day from Monday through Friday.
Tours are also available for anyone who like to learn more about the culture and have a look inside the mosque.
During these visits, everyone is welcome to ask questions and gain knowledge about the location.
In this demonstration, volunteers will illustrate how they utilize the fountain to cleanse themselves before prayers and how it is a part of the mosque’s cultural heritage.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (Arabic: , romanized: Jami Ash-Shaykh Zyid Al-Kabr) is a mosque in Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates.
It is the world’s largest mosque. It is the most important venue of worship in the country, serving as the focal point for daily prayers. More than 41,000 people came to the mosque to celebrate Eid this year.
History
The construction of the Grand Mosque took place between 1996 and 2007. When outside landscaping and car parking are excluded, the building complex has a footprint of roughly 290 by 420 m (950 by 1,380 ft) and covers an area of more than 12 hectares (30 acres). The primary axis of the structure has been turned around 11 degrees south of true west, allowing it to be aligned with the Kaaba in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. When SheikhZayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the late president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), announced his intention to build an architectural and artistic structure that would unite the cultural diversity of the Islamic world with the historical and contemporary values of architecture and art, he was met with widespread opposition.
SZGMC offices are located in the west minarets of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center (SZGM).
The library, which is housed in the northeastern minaret, provides the community with classic books and publications on a variety of Islamic themes, including science, culture, calligraphy, the arts, and coinage, as well as certain rare publications, to benefit the whole community.

Design and construction
Yusef Abdelki, the mosque’s architect, drew inspiration from a variety of sources, including theAbu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque in Alexandria, constructed byMario Rossi in the 1920s; the Badshahi Mosque in Lahore, Pakistan; and other allusions to Persian, Mughal, and Indo-Islamic architecture. For the project, which was a joint venture between Italian builders Impregilo and Rizzani de Eccher, more than 3,000 employees and 38 sub-contracting businesses were enlisted to help with its construction.

Arts and craftspeople and materials came from a variety of nations, including India; Italy; Germany; Egypt; Turkey; Morocco; Pakistan; Malaysia; Iran; China; the United Kingdom; New Zealand; North Macedonia; and the United Arab Emirates.
Dimensions and statistics
The mosque can seat more than 40,100 attendees, with the main prayer hall having a capacity of more than 7,000 people. In addition, there are two smaller prayer halls, each having a capacity of 1,500 people, one of which is dedicated exclusively to women. The courtyard is surrounded by four minarets, each of which rises to approximately 107 m (351 ft) in height and are located on the four corners of the courtyard. The courtyard, with its flower pattern, is approximately 17,000 m2 (180,000 sq ft) in size and is often regarded as the biggest marble mosaic in the world, according to some sources.

Key architectural
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is distinguished by a number of distinctive features, including the following: The carpet in the hall is said to be the biggest carpet in the world, and it was created by Iranian designer Ali Khaliqi and manufactured by Iran’s Carpet Company. Controversy
In 2013, the musician Rihann, who is based in the United States, received harsh feedback for shooting pictures with the Mosque in the background during a private visit. During the encounter, she is said to have posed in a way that was regarded unpleasant and provocative by witnesses. Following the event, she was asked to leave by her coworkers.

The guest entrance is a little weird, being quite a distance from the mosque itself, not well-signposted, and containing an underground shopping mall (! ); ask your taxi driver to drop you off at ‘the souk near the great mosque’ – that’s where you’ll find the entry. After passing through the mall, there is a long subterranean tube that leads to the mosque.

February of the next year, 2022 This is, without a doubt, one of the “must see” attractions in Abu Dhabi.
All of this has been mentioned by a number of other people.
Asma, our tour guide, was poised, knowledgeable, amusing, and very natural.
Remember to visit Sheikh Zayed’s exquisite last resting place, from where a devoted Quran reader may be heard reciting verses from the Quran almost constantly.
The memorial (and visitors center) devoted to those who have served in the UAE’s military services was our next stop.
In addition to being a fascinating and beautiful environment in its own right, Wahat Al Karama also provides spectacular views of the Grand Mosque and the surrounding area.

This massive building, which rivals the Mezquita in Spain in size and scope, is a monument to both inventiveness and money.
When you arrive, look for the two glass domes on the roof, since this is the entry to the mosque for guests (don’t simply drive straight up to the front of the mosque).

In addition to taking us to locations we would not have been able to visit without a tour guide, it allowed us to get a newfound understanding for the cultural and religious rituals of this Mosque and the nation as a whole.
